My lovely cat has gone missing - tell me some tales of cats that have come back please?

Just to keep my mind off it, can anyone tell me some nice stories of your cat going missing & then coming back to you?

My lovely boy cat has been missing for 2 days now, he's never even stayed out overnight before, and we are worried sick. Have done all the leaflet drops, spoken to the neighbours, the local vets, postman & even the local builders (he used to go & share their lunch with them!) and put up posters so now I am sitting here trying not to think bad thoughts, so if you can share your happy ending stories to cheer me up, that would be appreciated.

One of my older cats was found at the old people's home down the road after 5 days missing, having been taken in by an old lady who missed her cat, and who was feeding him haddock & fruit cake... I used to have to go & spring him from there on a regular basis.

A friends cat has just come back home after 5 days.
Another friend's cat was missing for just over a fortnight. She came home but very thin. They think she had been locked in somewhere.

Yes, chipped and neutered, and has a collar on as well. I've called the microchip company & registered him as missing

Thanks Pipkins, we are afraid he may be locked in somewhere as he's very inquisitive. He also likes climbing in the car, so I really hope he hasn't done that to someone else & been taken miles away.

One of our cats went missing for two weeks and was found safe and sound but very thin. We think she went out one night and it started to snow so she lost the scent of how to get home. Was found two roads away in someone's shed, so keep up with the posters and ask people to check their sheds, garages, etc. Wishing your boy a speedy return.

Really sorry to hear about your cat

My young boy cat went missing earlier this year, we were absolutely frantic with worry as it was very wet & cold at the time. I imagined him injured & lost somewhere. It was really awful. We put posters through doors, told vet & anyone else you could think of, searched & searched by day & night....nothing, no sign of him at all. By day 3 we had no one left to tell & the waiting was awful. Anyway the cat turned up at 4am the next morning, he woke me up mewing & mewing in his excitement to be back. We still have no idea where he had been but he was dry so had probably been shut in somewhere.

My last old cat had also gone missing in his youth, he was away for much longer - nearly 2 weeks and I had sadly stopped hoping he would come back. I thought he had died & I would never know what had happened to him. He too then turned up out of the blue, very dirty - probably had been stuck somewhere as well.

It was very sweet when we went to pick up our cat after a phone call from the lovely lady who found her - and fed her ham and got bitten for her troubles - Dinks heard DH's voice and maiaowed really loudly, and threw herself at him!

Lovely stories.

I had a gorgeous ginger cat turn up on my doorstep one night in an absolute belter of a rainstorm.

He seemed lost and scared and thin, so I let him in and fed him (we already had our own cat) and found him a box and old towel to sleep on in our lean-to.

Next morning I let him out, hoping he would run off home, but he just hung around our house and garden, and turned up again later in the day looking vulnerable and bewildered .

I made a load of posters at work (this was pre-internet) and put them up in my local area.

Days passed and the lovely cat became more settled and started eating better and became quite affectionate towards me. But no response to my posters.

I was secretly hoping we could keep him.

But then, on about day 10, I got a call from a woman with a missing ginger cat. She came round and stood in our garden and shouted out his name and he appeared and it was a beautiful reunion! She lived about 10 minutes walk away from us. I was sad to see him go but so happy for her.

We had a cat returned to us after 2.5 months thanks to the miracle of a microchip. He was only about two roads away, the stinker. (I was so disjointed with delight that I had to go back the next day with a card and flowers and say thank you properly)

Ladycelia I hate that sick feeling when your cat disappears Ours have vanished from time to time and I do worry but they've always prowled back in just as I'm starting to panic.

I remember one of ours went missing one winter. Dh and I were standing outside people's garages in the dark calling for him and shaking boxes of biscuits

If he's locked in he's sure to be able to get out soon as people are in and out of sheds and garages a lot this time of year. Maybe he's just gone on an exploration. Again the warm weather can make them roam a bit.

My parents youngish cat was staying on a farm whilst they were on holiday, he disappeared on day 2, they weren't informed and came home 2 weeks later.

Mum spent the next 4 days roaming the woods above the farm calling for the cat. On day 4 he dashed out of the woods into her arms yowling like mad at her. He was thin, but none the worse.

He went on to live a long and happy life with them until he was 18 (didn't roam far from home again though).

We had ours disappear for about a week.Did all the letterbox drops, knocking on doors etc. Turned out she had had a fight with an elderly neighbour's cat (she is a bit of a thug, our cat) and the neighbor's cat had her bailed up in their attic.

She came home. Snuggled and slept for 2 days then went out with her tail swishing looking for round two.

My friends cat (rescue, very timid) went missing for 24 hours.
They were in a complete panic because they live right near a very busy duel carriageway, but they couldn't find her anywhere, went to bed really upset.
In the night they thought they could hear faint meowing but they'd checked all the wardrobes etc so assumed it was neighbours cat.

Friend opens sock drawer in the morning and a very pissed off cat jumps out! Poor thing had been in there since the previous morning, must have got in while friend was getting dressed. One ruined drawer of socks but one happy cat owner!

One of mine disappeared for five weeks. I finally found her by chance walking down the street and there she was, just sitting on a patch of grass a few streets away from home. So I gathered her up and took her home. Someone knocked on the door later and accused me of nicking their cat, turns out they'd only had her for five weeks...

Another was staying at my daughters and got out. She was missing for a week. My daughter rang me and said she thought she was in the local scrapyard, as she'd heard a cat miaowing there and recognised it but hadn't seen her. Yup. It was indeed my cat, who for once was actually happy to come to me (she's usually a cat with a sour disposition)

One of my cats disappeared for 5 days when we were on holiday......our friend did not tell us for 4 days for fear of us worrying. The cat turned up the next day; flounced in as if nothing had happened.

Just a word of warning - if you do go around peoples' garages etc, it might be nice to warn them! I looked out the window late one evening when DH was away to see two men peering in the window of our garage. I, without thinking, threw open the back door and yelled 'Can I help you?' (quite loudly, so nextdoor neighbour would hear me). The two very nice blokes then explained they'd lost their cat and were looking for him. The cat wasn't in the garage but they left me a flyer with their number in case he did turn up.

DH was not happy with me when I told him about it as he said I shouldn't have challenged them in case they were up to Dastardly Deeds.

My friend's cat disappeared for a week and turned up about a mile away! I think the people who found him heard about him being missing through the local primary school - have you put posters up there? It will hopefully get the attention of people from lots of local areas.

My cat also ran out of the house on the third night we had her. She'd never been outside before so we thought she wouldn't be able to find her way back but she did! They're clever things.

There have been 'cat missing' posters up in our area for about a fortnight and I dutifully checked our sheds. I was feeling sad every time I walked past them. And then earlier in the week my DD spotted that someone has been round and written 'FOUND - thank you' on them all. How lovely is that? Good luck, OP.
