Smelly cat, smelly cat...

Hi - First time poster in this area
My cat has come home smelling rather odd - slightly fishy , like he's been in a bin or similar. He's not a wanderer or a scavenger, so I'm really not sure what it could be.
Is there any way we can clean him of this smell? It's not nice!

That would be 'He's not a .....scavenger....' as far as you know !. Maybe someone put out a nice smelly end of salmon or something and he couldn't resist it. They get up to Gawd knows what when you can't see them, sometimes.

I'd leave him to clean himself, personally. He should make a better job of it than you. Maybe put a fire on to encourage him. (But perhaps don't allow him in bed tonight?)

He's been banned from all the bedrooms!
He has been cleaning himself a bit - but not the main part of his back, which is where it smells worst

A flannel dampened with some lukewarm water then - stroked fairly firmly over his fur in the direction of growth. Just in case he's been rolling in something.

Is he neutered?

An end of salmon then. Most likely.

It could be anal glands, see if it's gone away tomorrow. Hopefully it's not that because it's disgusting and really not fun for the cat.
