The litter tray

I know it's very soon, but I have a new cat and wanted to share.

You were so lovely when my beloved Millie died last week.
I decided to go and see a cat today as the owner was moving and couldn't take him with her. I went with an open mind, prepared to say no if it didn't feel right. (Thanks to Mignonette for sharing her story about this - I kept it in mind.)
So, I got there, sat down and this beautiful dainty pure white cat sniffed at me, then leapt onto my knees, climbed up my chest and went in for full kiss on the lips! He head butted me, licked my nose and face and quite simply I knew he was perfect.
He didn't make a peep the whole way home (a novelty for me!) and is happily in my spare room under bed. I'm on the floor tapping away on iPad and he keeps popping out for a stroke then retreating.
He's beautiful. I will take a better pic when he's more settled...

Thanks Holiday! He's just sat down to clean his penis next to me, so looks like he's feeling at home already! Hmm

Oh dear, that kind of cleaning elicits titters of hilarity in this house.

What a lovely (and very sleek) boy. He looks very confident in the photo.

Thanks Cozie!
He's looking a little outraged, I know, but he is just beautiful! I have been the lucky recipient of several kisses and head bumps so far but he does like returning back to his "safe place" under the bed. Going to leave him for a while now..,if I can!

It's a big big change for him so the occasional tentative moment is to be expected.

Is he getting little taste treats yet? Wink

Thanks you lot! Popped back up to see him and he was stretched out in the corner looking happy. He came over instantly for a play and kept rolling on his back for belly rubs. He's the friendliest little thing, he reminds me of little Millie so much! Oh his name is Snowy, but in my mind he's now Jon Snow Grin
I'd actually be tempted to let him explore the rest of the house but he has not met Scabbers yet (my big ginger boy) and Scabbers would be less than thrilled to walk in to find me playing with another cat in the living room! Luckily I'm off all week so plenty of time to integrate them slowly.

Incidentally, the lovely woman I got her from told me a woman had rung up enquiring after him but lived 20 miles away and didn't have a car. Could she please deliver him instead! No, said owner, I can't. Grudgingly the caller agreed to get the bus but said "she would have to hide the cat under her coat as she didn't have a carrier!"
Weird or what?!

He's better off where he is.

Do you think that Scabbers suspects an interloper ? (Is he doing that Fred Flintstone thing with his nose yet if there are maybe smells drifting his way?)

Haha! He's not been in since I let him out this morning at seven or so! He will do EXACTLY that though, I know he will Grin

Could I have some quick advice?
Scabbers is home and was instantly curious about the shut door! I went into the new cat's room and calmed him down as he was a bit hissy. They haven't met yet but are definitely aware of each other.
So, New cat has been shut up all day so I've now shit Scabbers in my bedroom so new cat can take his time and roam the rest of the house.
Is this ok, do you think?
Thanks!

yeah, best you can do. they need to get used to each other's scent for at least a few days (I think week is ideal) before they get eyeballs. they'll probably never like each other but can get used to the other one being around.

Thanks Holiday! Door is open for Snowy to explore but he's not interested. I think I will shut Scabs in with me tonight and leave Snowy's door open again.

Was Scabbers on guard at all ? I think I'd be expecting him to be the easier conquest as he was so recently in a household with more than one cat.

PS - who held the balance of power between him and Millie?

Report
JonSnowKnowsNothing · 15/04/2014 18:20

Scabbers just seemed curious - no hissing or growling from him at all. Now he's on my bed napping and seems to have lost interest. His and Millie's relationship was a peculiar one. They play scrapped very evenly and in the month before Millie died they just reached mutual grooming stage. ( Sad )
I'm not too worried about Scabbers but I don't want to scare the poor new boy.

Beautiful cat Jon Snow, delighted that you have found each other!

I hope things work out ok between Scabbers and Snowy!

Thanks Grin
Yes he has the most beautiful pale blue eyes!
This morning I got up and fed Scabbers then went in to make a fuss of Jon Snow. I left the door open an inch and Scabby came and sat outside. Jon Snow was NOT impressed and there was some hissing and growling on both parts. Sigh.
Decided not to push it today so have let Scabby out as normal and have brought Jon Snow down to explore the living room.

He's barely eaten since he got here though - a couple of crunches and a chewy treat stick, Not sure if he's drank. Hopefully it's just from not being completely settled yet.
