About 16 months ago, we had a pair of siblings from 8 wks old - a boy and girl, who we named Apollo and Artemis. They got on very well together, but Arty was a little withdrawn and would keep to herself while Polo would be a real house cat, hunting, guarding and was v friendly. Unfortunately, last month, Apollo was knocked over and killed early in the morning.
We were of course devastated, and while no other cat will replace him, I'm quite anxious that Arty isn't alone. I've been thinking it might be time to get a new cat, but I don't want to wait so long that Arty gets used to being on her own, neither do I want to get one too quickly.
Is it about the right time? She's started to be a lot more friendly, staying in a bit more, coming for cuddles a bit more, and being more vocal. She even caught her first mouse yesterday, which she'd never done before, so I think she's stepped up to the plate now that she realises that Apollo has gone.
But likewise, I don't want to squash her confidence by getting a new kitten or young cat!
