I just dont know what to do Sad
we've had betsy (was betty but didn't stick) for four weeks.
we all adore her and she is the most loving kitten ever... she is currently sat on my knee purring as load as can be.
my little boy was fine for a couple of weeks and then when hes in our house only has started coughing to the point he is sick.. and coming out in a rash.. (he is fine when he's not at home)
I took him to the doctors who said in her opinion he's allergic to the kitten.
I have been so upset and just don't know what to do..

Please cat lovers help me (and if anyone is in south Yorkshire and would like to adopt betsy) please give me some idea of what to do x

Aww poor you and poor kitten. Could he take an anti histamine for a couple of weeks to see if he gets used to it (my dh was allergic to cats and managed it by doing this)

I asked the dr and she wasn't keen on giving him anything as he's only just turned 4.. I honestly feel so upset betsy follows me everywhere and I had visions of her growing pld with my family Sad

Cat vs your child's health? No brainer.

When I was a kid I used to get red itchy eyes around cats. Then I spent more time around cats. Now I get terrible asthma when I'm anywhere a cat has been.

Allergies get worse in the continued presence of the allergen, anti histamines will not help in the long term. Contact the local cat rescue society and find a new home for the kitten.

I think you know the answer to this.

I developed an allergy to cats, but it's not severe (certainly never been sick), but I was 18 by then and I was already used to treating myself with antihistamines for hayfever. But it's quite different for a 4 year who is reacting so much he throws up. I know it's really upsetting, but I think you need to rehome the cat.

Allergies dont necessarily get worse. My dh is allergic to new cats but is fine when he is around them for a few weeks, and i dont think thats unusual.
He was in a right state around my sisters cats but is fine with ours.

I know I do and of course if its between the cat and the boy the boy will win Wink
I just feel guilty and I also don't know where to start with re homing her.
i posted her on a pets page of Facebook but honestly the people who responded just weren't nice or had dogs..
Sad

Take her to the cat home. She will be adopted in an instant, and to people who have been checked out.

I'm so sorry to hear this. Our LO suddenly became violently allergic to our cat after a nasty cold. It's a horrible situation but I'm sure she'll find a lovely new home. (We were incredibly lucky as a friend had just decided to get a cat when we needed to rehome).

thanks circle I feel bad for not realising it could be the cat because he was fine for the first few weeks I didn't know they could become allergic after a while.

I am hoping to speak to my friend tomorrow and see if she could have her.she has her sister already. if not it will be the cat homeSad

Sorry it's not worked out for you OP. Please get rid of the cat ASAP. Cat allergies have put my sister in hospital many times. How she felt really did depend on minutes so don't have her in the house another day.
