We have a artifical tree about 5'8 tall and an 8 month old neutered ginger tom, is this is recipie for disaster? He has already tried to climb it once. He won't have access to it when we are out.

I'm no use on this one Italian. I just say NO and they obey it - although I wouldn't leave young cats alone in a room with one. (No sense putting too much temptation in their way at that age.)

Judging by that which other posters have said, though, it's likely a recipe for disaster.

We have a four month old ginger tom. I'm afraid he is mostly barred from the front room while the tree is up.
He's been in there a few times though, and is absolutely fascinated by it. He's managed to get half way up, leaving a trail of devastation. I think his mission is to get to the top.

Our tree went up two days ago and Seniorboy has plain ignored it and also ignored the various lights and baubles. Nothing beats Love With The Person in this household. (Or a good fire.)

my tweo four month old foasters think i have provided them with a new playhouse, they havent knocked the tree over yet but i have replaced several baubles

Well I wouldn't be using a water spray if they were going near live electrical connections - ie Xmas tree lights/possible ganged extension sockets.

I have three kittens here all under the age of 1 (foster cats)

I have to rebuild the tree every morning

I can't keep them away from it because of the layout of my house.

I have 12 week old kittens and am keeping them off by putting it on a small table - there isn't enough ledge for them to jump onto, and the tree itself is a bit too high to reach. It is very funny watching them figure that out, though. I plan to give them free rein on 12th night if it survives that long!

I had to take my tree down on Christmas Eve last year. It looked like a car crash, and I was having to untangle my naughty mog from the lights every five mins where she repeatedly attempted to strangle herself. It is an eight foot tree and she would scoot up the top in seconds. Sigh.

We are in the middle of moving house now, so no tree. But God knows what we will do next year.

While Seniorboy may be ignoring ours, I've actually broken two baubles while trying to rearrange things (shattered on the floor) so I'm more dangerous than the cat!

We made a baffle to try and protect our artificial tree from the 6 month old monster. Just a disc of cardboard with a slot cut towards the middle that we put above the lowest set of branches in an attempt to stop him climbing up from underneath. He was using the metal parts of the branches nearest the central pole as a ladder to climb the tree.

The baffle stopped him completely for the first few days, then he learnt to take a flying leap from the sofa, through the branches and belly flop on to the baffle! Now he has a solid platform within the tree he tends to just lay on it and hide rather than climb the tree and pull out the branches. We do have to leave a gap for him to enter and exit through though.

Ha ha L that made me laugh. My little bugger was doing the same re the metal parts of the branches. Once she got to the top of the tree she had the audacity to poke her head out and start batting my lovely baubles off their branches

Our kitten is 6 months old and hasn't trashed ours yet. She prefers using it as a hide out.

We make sure we shut the door on it when we go out though in case she gets tempted..
