Help using a mosquito net on the windows to keep kitten in please.

Just that really, we need to keep our kitten in but he is trying to climb out of the windows - I have read on here someone using a mosquito net on the windows, great idea. So I need to order the net, then I guess it can be cut to size, but how do you attach it to the window? It's a Maine Coon so is fairly big/strong!

I doubt a mosquito net would hold a Maine Coon, kitten or not. I'd wait for other suggestions.

No way you can put locks on the windows to leave them just a little ajar?

You need proper window screens (ugly but you get used to them in bug-ridden places). Netting will just be something nice for kitten to shred.

Shame.. I could just leave them a little ajar but that's not really cutting it in this heat! Any suggestions welcome. It's so lovely having a kitten again, such a playful little fluff ball. I don't want him to get out.

The critical thing with leaving windows ajar is to get the right number and in the right direction - so that you get a through current of air and not a muddy swirl.

I'd try experimenting in the meantime. (And remember that the weather is due to break shortly, I think.)

Have you opened the loft hatch? It lets the heat rise out of the house.

There are several websites that specialize in cat screens. This is one.

They are expensive but seem to be good.

Thank you. I have ordered a few of the ones linked above, will see how I get on with them. But will probably get a couple of the cat screen to go on the front room windows as he won't ever be allowed out the front - they seem like a more permanent solution. I'll update when they arrive! We don't have a loft hatch - it's a bedroom now.

Oh - think it might have been me going on about mesh plus velcro hooks. I got mine after googling about for a while, PVC-covered heavy duty mesh which is, as I found out this morning, capable of allowing a determined 15-week-old kitten to climb it!

I bought 5m of the stuff and did 5 windows for £37. I am expecting him to tear it at some point, but hopefully not too much before he learns he shouldn't be doing it.

Mummy cat hasn't tried to climb it, thankfully. She has just escaped twice as we opened the outside door to go out and so reluctantly we have taught her the catflap a couple of weeks earlier than we'd hoped to do.
