The Prodigal Returns(20 Posts)
Well, hopefully he now knows if Sooty turns up he's to return him to you. Without giving him any sausages.
My cats ended up with two evening meals today thanks to my brother doing a similarly good job of listening <sigh>
He probably just heard "blah blah blah blah dinners ready blah blah cup of tea? Blah blah"
It's like white noise to them.
I could throttle him.
Love him to bits, but...love a duck, engage brain when being told stuff !!
Serves him right that Sooty woke him up too this morning. I saw their bedroom light come on during the Sooty seranade at gone 3am.
Mind you, you'd have to be deaf to have slept through it.
That's just like a man isn't it? The dots just don't join up do they?
I've just found out..
a) where Sooty has been
b) that when my friend talks it evidently goes in one of her husband's ears then put the other one, bypassing brain.
He just popped round. I was all "All Hail The Prodigal" and he was all "oh I wondered where he was today".
Sooty has been just up the road where the big yellow circle is, I live where the red A is, a ten minute walk being fed sausages in exchange for excellent mousing up at the big farm.
Two months I have been sniffling on my (f) neighbour's shoulder, which she will have told him, and the big appeth has been luring away my pussy cat with sausages due to cloth ears !!
Just around the corner too. We were able to prove he was ours by the unusual notches ripped into his ear- he got into a fight as a kitten and we had lots of pics.
One of my first cats left home for 4 years
Blimey. A couple of months is nothing next to that.
Had he adopted another family ? (which my original suspition with Sooty)
But he wasn't exactly hard done by when he buggered off. Ungrateful wotnot.
I have always had to fed him titbits when cooking becuase otherwise he is very insistant about jumping onto the work surface. He is many things, but getting the message that he isn't allowed somewhere is not one of them. Never known such a determined cat.
He has always had prime position for the best radiant heat from the fire. And is first in the cat queue for the nice cooling bed that is a bidet in the hotter months.
And he is very very yowly so has never suffered a lack of lots of cuddles. We had to. Just to give our ears a break.
So I wouldn't put it past him to wander off again. But maybe he has learned his lesson and will stick closer to home and not get lost next time ?
I have just seen stars. He has a MASSIVE bonce, and headbutted me between the eyes (loveingly) with the same force a bulldozer typically applies.
I think this means he as almost as happy to be home as we are that he is home.
Poor DS is trying to revise next to me with a ruddy great panther demanding attention by placing himself between book and eyes.
Looking more carefully...he is a bit scruffy. Not his usual slick furred self. And there are lots and lots more white hairs mixed in with the jet black. I think while basically unharmed he hasn't had all that easy a time of it. Poor thing.
I wonder if he'd like some prized extra virgin cold pressed off a teaspoon ?
One of my first cats left home for 4 years. He came home 6 weeks after his brother had been hit by a car. We were devastated losing Ebony, and could hardly believe it when a rather porky Honey came sauntering up the path and onto my bed.
Away = cold, wet, hard beds, not enough food.
Casa Carpe = warm, dry, soft beds and prosciutto on
To a cat that's not really a contest.
They are indeed.
DH keeps sneaking him prized prociutto. He'll be fattened up in no time.
Thinking about it, I reckon he went hunting, and gradually got further and further afield. Probably spent a good few weeks trying to get his bearings so he could find his way back home.
Can't believe how good shape he is in all things considered. The last Stronghold application was 2 months ago, and he is still flea free. But I'll do him today just to be on the safe side.
He is really tired. But then so are we cos he kept us up half the night yelling at us for food/cuddles/adulation.
At least one of us gets to catch up on Zzzzz.
Lilly keep looking atmhim like he is an interloper. Not sure if she remembers him or not. The rest of the herd have given him a sniff hello, but she is being a bit skittish around him. Not that he seems to care.
He is now rolling on Billy Big Dog. And Billy as ever just lies there and let's himself be used as a cats' jungle gym. Daft, soppy wotnot.
I can't believe he came home. I really had started to accept that he was gone forever. A big wieght lifted. Not ready to say goodbye yet.
I wonder if all the prociutto will stop him wandering off again ?
Such good news, I'm so happy for you. They're little buggers for worrying us so much though.
That's great news. I'm so pleased. I wonder where he's been.
And I think he's probably too young for dementia.
Your dh is a big softy then really isn't he?
I hope this gives comfort to the others on here with missing cats that they do return.
Who can tell? We never found out where my Mom's boy had been although there was much conjecturing. I wouldn't have thought he'd have wandered off in a state of confusion - not only because he's still pretty young (well early middle aged) but because if so, how did he get back?
Just enjoy his return.
He has devoured some best quality prociutto. His fave ever. Given by DH ... the least sympathtic amoung us. It must be love if expensive prociutto is shared
He isn't in bad shape other than being skinny. I've checked him over, no wounds, limps, infections...nothing.
I am wondering about a form of cat demensia though. Is that possible in cats ? Could he have wandered off in a state of confusion and not been able to remember how to get home ? He's only 9 though, which while not young isn't exactly old either.
Oh thank god, the scenrios I have been immaging are not pleasant. With any luck he won't hightail it again. He seems quite content to stay where he is, asleep...on my feet
Aww great! One of my Mom's boys came home after a couple of months, once - not in great shape but at least he came back.
Is he living on little taste treats of chicken and salmon for the moment?
2 months I have been pining for Sooty
then from nowhere he distubed the peace (woke us AND our neighbours up with his yowling) at gone 3 am and made his triumphant (if very skinny..well very skinny by his standards) return.
Feel like a big lump of worry and resignation has been peeled off my heart.
I hope anybody in similar circs gets the same outcome.
Aside from the "keep whole family awake most of the night" bit.
Seriously, he has had us up and down all night with his highly vocal demands. Pretty sure there must be some Siamese in there somewhere.
Am knackered. But so happy My big boy came home.
