Cat Coat or Electric Blanket for 19 yr old cat??

I think my 19 year old cat is cold at night. She is very skinny, always has been. She is still very active racing up trees, over fences etc by day.

Anyway I think she's getting cold at night once our heating goes off.

Has anyone ever bought a tiny cat coat to keep an elderly cat warm? Or should I go the electric blanket route?

Can you advise me please?

Thanks grin

I used to have a cat many years ago and we used a hot water bottle under a blanket. I still remember the first night I popped in to check on her. She'd gone from huddled up to a full out sunbathing sprawl smile

I still don't know if it's the warmth she likes or the feeling of being covered - or as I suspect that in fact she's sat there going, hah! I knew I wasn't one of those cat things, I'm human, look, I've got clothes, lol.

I have a hot water bottle in a bagpuss cover, my cat really likes to sleep on him, or on the radiator.

I love the pics And....... I went and bought a jumper today for my oldy lady!! :-)

Well.... my husband snorted and thought me completely mad (I secretly thought it too!!) anyway, she loves it. I am so surprised. I thought she'd be racing around the house trying to get it off, but no has been making a huge fuss of me and proudly showing off her new jumper (blue fleece).

Its too big for her so I will need to do some modifications later. Plus she wasn't keep on the legs so I will chop them off (on the jumper - not hers!). Very pleased that she likes it.

However, since coming home from the school run she has since taken the jumper off but is snuggled up with it.

this is giving me some good ideas. dcat1 is now 16 and is getting quite skinny and seems to feel the cold a lot.

I don't know whether she'll be happy with a jumper, but it's worth a try. she always sleeps as tightly curled up as possible for warmth, and loves it if I put a hotty on the sofa with a blanket on top.

Excellent. (Tabulah could have started a real trend.)

I'm looking forward to lots of new pics!

Oh god, I'm now imagining cats up and down the country wearing jumpers because of me, the shame... I'm mortified enough about my cat wearing one, lol.

That's what comes of having a spoilt cat I suppose.

cozietoesie Mon 25-Feb-13 17:19:51

We'll give you full credit for years to come, tabulah!

tabulahrasa Mon 25-Feb-13 17:28:40

thanks hmm

MrsHoneybean Mon 25-Feb-13 18:44:24

You could even start your own clothing line grin I would be your first customer. Lol.

MrsHoneybean Mon 25-Feb-13 18:49:49

Anyway thanks everyone for all your great ideas. My very lovely elderly 19 year old lady is most grateful. I will try and post a pic later of her in her lovely fleece. smile

Am going to purchase the electric heated pet bed too that Stealthsquiggle recommended.

This kitty is well and truly sorted and spoilt!!

Thanks thanks

OMG - I could call it the cat's pyjamas...if only I was crafty, I wonder if I could persuade anybody to go into some sort of partnership? lol

Fluffycloudland77 Mon 25-Feb-13 19:22:53

This is the problem with husbands, you want to put the cat in a jumper and they think your mad. grin

tabulahrasa Mon 25-Feb-13 19:58:28

See nobody even questioned my sanity when I put my cat in a jumper! Clearly they've accepted my descent into crazy cat lady much better than I have. confused

marriednotdead Mon 25-Feb-13 21:42:27

However, since coming home from the school run she has since taken the jumper off but is snuggled up with it.

I read that as the cat doing the school run. Does she?!

This thread is hilarious grin

cozietoesie Mon 25-Feb-13 21:59:16

Who can tell? She took the jumper off - now all MrsHoneybean has to do is teach her to put it on by herself!

MrsHoneybean Mon 25-Feb-13 22:07:10

Lol I did chuckle at the last few posts.

FYI Patsy hasn't quite mastered putting her new jumper on just yet but we're working on it! Hopefully by tomorrow? Then she said she'll do the school run!! wink

Once I've mastered how to upload pics I'll let you have a sneaky peek of her new clothes!!

I think I'm def the new crazy cat lady! Lol grin

tabulahrasa Mon 25-Feb-13 22:40:58

Oh I'm disappointed now that my cat can't undress or dress herself...she just shivers miserably on top of the radiator and I get her jumper for her.

I'm not sure if she's not bright enough to work it out or if she's just got me really well trained...

MrsHoneybean Mon 25-Feb-13 23:21:42

This is my other daft cat who thinks he's a plant!!

Look at my cat!

Still working on the jumper pic, coming shortly....

MrsHoneybean Mon 25-Feb-13 23:31:08

And finally the moment you've been waiting for!!!

Here's Patsy in her smart new jumper!

cozietoesie Mon 25-Feb-13 23:42:34

Oh my!

bootsycollins Tue 26-Feb-13 00:37:48

CUTE! Now I need a window box too. If my boy loved wearing jumpers it would quickly descend into matching accesories/themes/build a Bear outfits grin

sashh Tue 26-Feb-13 06:30:36

I can't see the pics

cozietoesie Tue 26-Feb-13 07:38:19

I'm seeing them fine, sashh. Check that your browser or - for instance - mcafee (if you have it) isn't blocking them.

That's a lovely pic. A cute old lady cat in a cute fleecy jumper ...
