He seems to be holding it and moving it normally now. My sister in law is a veterinary nurse and she said to keep eye on it until tomorrow to see if it swells up. She thinks it's probably just a bad bruise but the swelling would indicate something more.

I'd go to the vets if he isn't holding it normally, I've trapped our cats tail and paws in doors and windows but he didn't hold his tail differently.

It's your call really. I decided not to take my cat to the vets because she seemed fine really quickly. I had a good check of the tail & it seemed ok.

I shut my nearly 4 year old cat's tail in the window last year. She ran off for hours & I cried my eyes out knowing I had hurt her, was horrid. Eventually she came in & let me look at her tail. It had a lump for a few days, then was fine. No probs since. I didn't take her to the vets, but was lucky. I have read lots of things about how damaged tails can cause lots of problems.

Very often we amputate these tails please, please see a vet in the next 24 hours cats are very good a hiding pain and from the sounds of things this is a broken vertebrae in the tail.

(curious too)
I imagine the vet can't do anything that is worth the risks + costs, iyswim. Would be different if cat was in pain.

You should take him to the vets tail injuries can be very serious and painful. Often the nerves and blood supply have been damaged and the end of the tail 'dies. Untreated it can lead to very serious infections and loss of a lot more tail.

At 3am this morning DS5 needed the loo, when he was done he knew to shut the toilet lid make sure my gorgeous Sparkles was out of the bathroom and shut the door!

He didn't realise though that Sparkles tail was caught in the other end of the door!! POOR POOR KITTY,

He's eating ok and still playing like a mad cat but he isn't holding his tail quite as normally as usual - he can move the whole tail when he wants to though. I've felt the tail and there is a slight lump but he doesn't seem to cry out in pain when I touch it just gets a bit eggy with me.

I feel awful my poor poor baby is only 4 months :-(

How worried do I need to be? Should I just wait and see how it heals since he doesn't seem to be in any pain? I feel sick :-(
