My darling boy cat has been run over - please hold my hand.

My beloved boy Hepcat was run over last night. He is currently in hospital with a badly broken pelvis. The vet is quite hopeful that, as long as he progresses as he is doing and comes off the drips and goes on to oral medicines, he will be able to come home in a few days times for 8 weeks cage rest. How the poor brave little chap dragged himself home and through the cat flap I will never know.

I wish I knew for sure who the gutless bastard was who ran him over and did not come to tell us. We live at the dead end of a small cul-de-sac so everyone in the street knows him. The only other traffic at the end of the cul de sac is our next door neighbour who always treats going in and out of the drive as the start of a formula 1 race and just happened to be cleaning their car today. Odd as they usually use the carwash - do you think I should challenge them ?

I would ask if the neighbour if they saw anything But only if not feeling emotional - you don't want to start ranting at them.

I am sorry to hear that molly, but Hepcat is alive and the vet is hopeful so that is great.

Definitely ask the neighbour if they know anything. I think you will know byt the reaction. But as pancake said not if you are feeling emotional and angry.

My instinct is to let the neighbours (all of them) know and you can judge by reactions. But definitely once you've cooled down and maybe, also, in such a way that you don't seem to be targeting anyone. Say - print out a few really short flyers on the computer saying what happened, when it happened and asking them to let you know if they know anything. Then take them round people by hand.

There was a kitten on here who had cage rest after a broken pelvis and he's ok iirc.

Yes, it is really good that he got home. Injured cats often tend to run off in fright and never get found.

Good progress news from the Vet - he in in Vet hospital - he has used his litter tray for a wee so now they know that he is in control of his bladder.
He is aware of where his legs are and is in control of his tail. He still needs to show he can poo, so they are giving him an enema today. I am a lot more positive after this news, but they do say he needs to stay until he is on oral medication.

So sorry for your loss. He sounds like a very brave boy to have got home to you. It makes me furious that people can hit an animal and drive off not giving a shiny shit for the devestation that causes :(

Molly, I'm very sorry to hear Hepcat is gone. I normally do not post in these threads but thought the following may help you a bit.

When an animal is run over, there is a life preservation instinct that kicks in allowing them to run into safety even when the injuries are bad (i had a dog who was runover by a car and managed to run home for almost a block with a pelvis fracture).

Considering this, don't get angry at neighbours as it will only hurt you more and they might not have been involved anyway.

I confess to have run over a cat once, I felt the bump and saw the cat run in the mirror, I stopped the car immediatly and was looking for the cat for about 15 minutes but couldn't find it, obviously he was scared and hid well, I asked people in the nearby houses but no one knew the cat or owners.

I expect that if he was runover at night, it should have been almost impossible for the driver to find him.

I wanted so much for you to have good news.

It mattered more as my fab girl cat, Pickle, was run over and died Thurs night / Fri am. We live very rurally and the single track road has never been a threat before. We all miss her, even her brother and our dogs, but I agree with those on here who have said at least we both know what happened and have closure rather than waiting and wondering endlessly.

I hope you're ok. It is truly shitty.
