I think this might be FABCat's last thread

This morning she was coughing and has also had a sloppy bowel accident outside. She wasn't interested in breakfast even though I didn't come down until after 9 and she wasn't about when DH left at 7. He normally feeds her before he goes. I had to put the plate under her nose to get her to come and ear.

Her back legs are a bit wobbly and I will take her for a jab on Monday to hopefully get some relief. She didn't wee over night so that is postiive but when I was comforting her when she was coughing it really hit me that she is very old and isn't my baby anymore sad.

She has lasted for DD's birthday but I am not sure she will make her own sad.

I have just put a towel on the sofa for her to sit on, just in case, but she wasn't impressed and has jumped down on to the floor.

My cat is getting to the end of her life and I am not sure I will ever get over it blush.

She means the world to me, is the only thing in the world that is 100% mine, and I will miss her so much.

mumsnetters were telling me when i had my thread I would know and i was a bit hmm about it but you will ,

JustFabulous Fri 03-Aug-12 15:59:18

To me it feels like I have had her five minutes but also forever. There are times when she looks at me and I ask her if she has had enough but she doesn't answer. She harumps when DH asks her who the best daddy is --but it is because she wants him to feed her==

I just love her so much.

JustFabulous Fri 03-Aug-12 15:59:44

I don't know yet. So keep hoping?

Northernlurker Fri 03-Aug-12 16:07:01

If you don't know yet then it isn't time.
It's so hard because we do love them so much. I remember breaking our hearts over our first cat. I'd never seen my parents cry before.
Maybe you can ask the vet on Monday if they will come to the house when it is time for her? I think some charge more for that but some don't. Worth asking.
Also - depends on how forthright you're feeling but I might be tempted to go round the neighbours including Mr Twat and say 'my beloved cat is nearing the end of her life. Please be BLOODY CAREFUL when driving near my home as she is vulnerable'. Then fix them with the type of look that makes them think you'll do something drastic unless they drive like very old ladies!

BlueBirdsNest Fri 03-Aug-12 16:44:04

it will come to end , that's just the way of thingsand sadly it sounds close

Maybe you could spend a few days fussing over her and instead of feeling sad tell he how wonderful she is and how much happiness she has brought you

JustFabulous Fri 03-Aug-12 16:49:17

NL - I don't speak to MrTwat and was too scared to say something when he put DD at risk but he has recently shacked up with some girl much much younger than him so I hope she takes him for everything and then fucks off as he deserves it.

Other posters said they felt it was nearly time for FABCat and that was months ago so I think I will just keep spoiling looking after her.

She has just had tea, popped outside and is now settling down for another nap.

I talk to her all the time but haven't thought to tell her what she means to me other than to say I love her. I will do that when she wakes up properly.

thestringcheesemassacre Fri 03-Aug-12 17:45:26

Don't focus on the end of her life, think about how much you love her and what a wonderful pet she has been.

I'm sorry to be harsh, but you do get over it. You have to. It's a good while of grief and then suddenly one day you will find yourself smiling about something funny she would of done or how she behave.

SparkyTGD Fri 03-Aug-12 17:56:18

Agree with others who have posted, you will know when its time.

I've perhaps posted this to you before but when my lovely old cat was deteriorating, I kept expecting it to be her last day every day for days on end, she was like your cat & had been with me through thick & thin.

One day I realsied that I needed to stop doing that & just let her carry on until she got too poorly, so as long as she could eat (even if little), wee, poo, walk & appear to be content I would try to forget that I would probably have to pts one day sad

Just try to enjoy the time you have with her at the moment.

JustFabulous Fri 03-Aug-12 18:26:41

You are right, I do need to stop thinking every day is her last. It is hard though when she goes and does something new that reminds me how ill and old she is.

She has accepted the towel on the sofa now and is sleeping next to me now.

Cailleach Fri 03-Aug-12 21:23:31

I agree with other posters that you will know when it's time... for my last cat, crunch time came when he no longer wanted to go out, had lost his appetite completely and was clearly in some discomfort.

Sorry you are facing this, but you won't regret taking the merciful route out when the time comes.

JustFabulous Fri 03-Aug-12 21:27:12

She has my emotions all over the place.

She didn't seem to be able to get a flying bug off her face but when it took dh 3 attempts to get rid for good she went for him grin.

Sunnywithachanceofshowers Fri 03-Aug-12 22:14:34

Oh Fab I'm so sad for you and your lovely girl.

This charity offers online counselling for people whose cats are very ill. They helped me when my lovely boy Jas had cancer and I kept imagining the worst. I was able to enjoy our time together, which was great gift.

Big hugs to you and gentle hugs to kitty xxx

Thanks for that site Sunny - the activity book is good for the DCs.

How are you doing Fab? How is your moggy? She sounds happy now and you know her best. I've been through this twice now and it is so painful but they are worth it for the companionship and unconditional love (OK, so the Whiskas may have something to do with it wink). I grew up with cats and I think the DCs learn compassion from them too.

His sister is curled up next to me now. We have had a couple of feline visitors to the garden. It's like they know that the number of cats has gone down sad I think my little lad was actually quite good at defending his territory and I never realised it.

JustFabulous Sat 04-Aug-12 16:18:07

I am beyond exhausted today, dh yelled at me this morning, DS1 just was rude to me and bit my head off and FABCat played dead on the drive when we got back home after 3 hours out.

I am so scared she has had enough.

Still can bite though when touched when she doesn't want it.

JustFabulous Sat 04-Aug-12 16:18:55

Thanks Sunny. I will look at that site later. I can't face it atm.

Sunnywithachanceofshowers Sat 04-Aug-12 18:44:13

Huge hugs Fab. xx

I want her to sit on my lap and let me cuddle and stroke her but she has never been a lap cat and doesn't like being stroked more than a few times. I just need a cuddle tbh though liable to cry if I got one.

Should I ever talk about getting another cat, talk me out of it. I love FABCat and want her to live, happily, forever but I can't go through this again.

JustFabulous Sat 04-Aug-12 21:42:07

She's just had a piece if my cheese grin.

changeforthebetter Sun 05-Aug-12 08:41:35

I have a cheese loving moggie too smile He loves the fact the kids are messy with it. Lots of left overs for him grin

I know what you mean about going through it! Trouble is there are a lot of rescue cats out there ..................... Anyway, I am hoping the remaining Changecats are going to stick around for a while!!

JustFabulous Sun 05-Aug-12 14:15:22

She has been on her own all morning as dc1 is out with dad, dc2 was out with me and dc3 was at nanny and grandad's. I am 100% convinced she has not moved from the sofa and has slept all morning grin.

JustFabulous Sun 05-Aug-12 20:30:45

Vet tomorrow though I am unsure whether to take her.

She hasn't wet on the floor the last 2 nights. The vet said to take her back if she carried on weeing and/or was having trouble with her legs.

Sunnywithachanceofshowers Sun 05-Aug-12 21:20:34

Big hugs Fab. Hope she has a good evening xxx

changeforthebetter Sun 05-Aug-12 22:23:54

I hope FABcat has a peaceful evening.

You will know what to do. brew

PuddinAforeDinner Mon 06-Aug-12 09:18:20

I hope you don't mind me posting but I have been reading your threads about FAB cat.

She sounds like an amazing cat who is loved very much. She is a treasured family member and has been with you through many ups and downs so its no wonder your feeling like this.

I know what it's like to have to make this decision, we had to to this 2 years ago (boxing day actually). You will know when the time has come, she will tell you.

Make every day you have left with her count. Don't be sad now, enjoy the time you have.
