The litter tray

Litter tray recommendations please

Yay, we are going to get a rescue cat and am starting to put a few things together before the big arrival. What is a good litter tray please? It will be going near the back door in a quite narrow hall way and would prefer one with a lid for the cat to climb inside. And is there any point getting a basket for it to sleep in or is it best to wait and see if the cat finds a preferred sleeping spot? Thanks.

No idea about litter trays, but I'd save my money on the bed. Mine sleep and have slept since we got them, where they fancy.

I agree about the baskets - we bought two for our rescue cats but they rarely use them. They sleep on the sofa or the window ledge (quite a wide bay window) on an old blanket.

Regarding the litter tray, I just bought really cheap open ones, we had two in the downstairs loo while they were indoors. Once they started going out, I got rid of one of the trays and they rarely use the litter now. My boy cat avoids it at all costs unless he's stuck indoors all day if we are out (we don't have a catflap so they are either in or out IYSWIM). I use the wood litter and it really doesn't smell.
