I have just got a new kitten, going to collect at the weekend he will be 9 weeks and has been flea'd, wormed, litter trained and weened. However it has been a long time since I have had a kitten we lost one of my cats 17yrs in the spring and when I moved around a month ago I decided it was in the best interest of my cat (11yrs) to stay with my parents where he was as he is very timid and has spent his whole life in that house and has only just become brave enough to venture out to the bottom of the garden. As upsetting as it was to leave him I decided that for him it was the best choice. Anyway back to the kitten as it has been 11yrs since I had one for the life of me cannot really think of what I need and what might be quite nice to have so I thought I would ask for advice... So what do I really need for him and what would be nice to have if the budget extends?

Ooh how exciting, what colour is he and what name are you thinking of?

Obvious needs are a litter tray, food and water bowls, kitten food and litter. Find out what he eats now and try to get the same food but also have a thought to what you want to feed him in the long term to get the habits right now. So do you want him to eat just dry food or wet food too.

Some toys, just ping pong balls or similar and maybe a small stuffed toy he can wrestle and bite and a scratching post to get him in good habits with regards your furniture. At the moment he only needs a small post but as he grows a taller one is better as they like to stretch as they scratch.

Somewhere for him to hide and play in, just a cardboard box would do. And I suppose a bed for him to ignore in preference for the sofa, but that isn't a must in my view.

He/she needs neutering at around 6 months, and also vaccinations before they go out in the garden.

My cat wasnt interested in going out untill around 5 months anyway.

ColdSancerre he is a gorgeous little black boy with orange/brown eyes no idea on names as yet but he looks like he is going to be trouble haha on visiting him last night his mum tried to clean him and was like pinning him down and he was like trying to hit her away made me laugh so much was just like a children when their mums come up to them with a licked hankie haha. Thank you for the list much appreciated!!

Fluffycloudland77 yup already phoned my vets regarding jabs and snips and they do a kitten club where you pay monthly and everything is included which is pretty good.

Sounds gorgeous, orange eyes! I have a huge (as in big and strong but slinky and slim, not fat (like the tabby)) black boy and he is the most handsomest cat in the world.

Oh, cold I would have to challenge you on that, my Terry is the most handsome boy in the world, closely followed by his brother Jalapeno.

No, sorry, I won't have it. Sammy is the most handsome.
