cat missing for 10 days- when to stop looking?

my lovely cat has been missing for 10 days. she is an adventurer and often goes off for 2 or 3 days, but this is the longest by far. we have put up posters and notes through neighbours doors. she is microchipped so clinging to hope this means if she is taken to the vets they'll call us.

each day that passes makes me feel that it is more and more unlikely she will not come home. the not knowing is horrible. just don't know what else to try. have been out every day shaking her food and calling her. how
long before i should give up searching? What else can i try?

any thoughts/advice gratefully recieved. . thanks.

Someone posted recently thier lost cat turned up bedraggled and half starved after two months, possibly having been stuck somewhere. Maybe do some notes again asking neighbours to check sheds and outbuildings, offer a small reward?

Good luck

We have a neighbourhood forum in my postcode and get lots of posts for missing/found pets in there. Anything similar in your area?

You poor thing.
My cat went missing for a week, My daughter knocked on hundreds of doors!
found her in a garage, she had been shut in. The guy in the house said he only used his car at the weekends, it was 6 days without food or water! Don't give up, she was 100% fine.
lots of luck, thinking of you

I'm so sorry you're missing your cat. My mum lost one of hers when I was still living at home. He was found 3 weeks later in a house that was closed up for renovations. At one point one of her other cats followed her round the village and wouldn't budge when it go to this particular house.....

I don't know when to stop looking, I really hope you find him/her.

I once looked after a "stray" cat that turned up on my front doorstep in a thundering rainstorm for more than a week and became very attached to him. I had put up found posters and the owner did eventually track me down. She came to collect her cat (he was a beautiful ginger called Seamus as I recall) and took him away without much of a thanks or any kind of little gift for me. I've always been a bit Hmm about that.

Thanks so much for all your replies - sadly still no sign of our little cat. Have put up some more posters etc and just hoping we do eventually find out what happened to her, even if it is bad news..

My old cat once disappeared for 3 weeks (had got locked into someone's house when they went on holiday Shock) but came back perfectly fine, if a bit hungry.

Hope you find her.

We had a cat who disappeared for 5 weeks. We were distraught but decided we would get a new cat.
As I picked up the phone to ring the cat rescue people he clattered through the cat flap - he was very thin but OK.
The timing was hysterical and I swear he didn't want to share his house with another cat!

Just had to check the timing - friend posted on 20th July that the cat who had gone missing at the beginning of June had just come home (via the rescue centre). Good luck, I feel for you ... one of mine regularly goes 'missing' for about two hours longer than he did the previous time, just as I start to despair he wanders in. I'm convinced he's going to go for good one day, he's such a terror. :(

One of mine was missing for three weeks once, and we found someone’s cat after 2 weeks recently (we remembered a poster in the window of a local shop). Fingers very much crossed for you
