... any idea where the buggering cat might have stashed the rest of the bird?

Have you found out yet?

In your slippers? Handbag? Behind the sofa cushions? Under the bed?

We usually get heads, staring at us, or small purple brown organs.

Nope. I'm a bit disturbed!

Two weeks ago my friend said she saw the cat racing by with something in her jaws. Nothing was found that day, but yesterday: the wing.

I'm anticipating a long drawn out saga where every week the cat will reveal a new partially decomposed body part...

It's awful when this happens. Our old cat brought a wing in once and flung it about, and and it was quite fly-ie. weeps

It might have just brought the wing in. My two have been known to do this. If they do bring a bird in it's usually alive & they dump it by their food bowls. I like the think they're puss philanthropists, helping out needy birds (instead of dumping bird by food bowls as snack for later).

I'm trying to ignore the internal organs behind the utility room door. No sign of the rest of the creature. They can't have eaten all of it, hair or feathers, bone and all, can they?

I misread this as - you have only one bloody bedroom in the wing. Naturally, this is what I imagine the average MN'er lives in <surveys folly on lake to west of estate past lime avenue>

Our most recently deceased cat used to eat small birds and mice whole. He used to suck down the tail like spaghetti - it was quite amazing. We now have 2 new cats one of whom is a killing machine- 2 or 3 corpses a day at least. The other one has a large lampshade collar on to stop him scratching his scabby wounds- yesterday I saw somwthing in it and a closer inspection confirmed that he had a dead shrew stuck down at the neck bit- with the head bitten off. It was completely stuck flat to the plastic like a comedy cartoon character- it really was rank. It must have been there a few hours. Gross.
