Hi there - I have a gorgeous 12 yr ginger girlie who has been with me since a kit. She was a feral inbred farm cat but has been a major part of our life since. Long story short she has been getting more and more unwell over the last 12 mths - vet says she has a slow growing tumour in her nasal passages and sinuses, is completely deaf and is showing signs of becoming senile.SadVery thin but eats and drinks normally - vet says to keep an eye on her. She is a real home bird and only goes out for short periods of time during the day.

Thing is she went missing on Friday - searched the farm all weekend but found nothing - then she turns up today wailing in a weird way - deeper voice than ususal - let her in and had a real shock! I thought she had lost her eye but its the 3rd eyelid on her right eye which seems to be paralysed across the eye. Her pupil ( well the one that I can see) is really dilated, rapid breathing but doesn't seem distressed. Ate chicken for supper quite happily and is now lying in front of the aga fast asleep.

I've her booked into the vet in the morning but just wondering if anyone has any ideas whether this is the beginning of the end just in case I don't manage to bring her home tomorrow - rather be warned if this is a possibility Sad Thanks

I think the 3rd eyelid does come over sometimes when they are unwell. I seem to remember it happening with my old childhood cat and it wasn't the end for him then. Obviously she does need to see the vet, and only the vet can really answer your questions. I hope it all goes ok. If the worst happens though, it sounds like she's had a lovely life with you.

Just a quick update - Puss has been to the vets and had tests - kidneys, liver etc are all fine - they think the tumour has spread to her thyroid gland so shes now hyperthyroid hence the severe weight loss and increased drinking. Have decided not to treat with tablets as it will distress her too much (vet advice) - not good at being handled so its just a matter of keeping her as happy and comfortable as possible and mkaing sure she has food and water available at all times. Vet reckons she could last anything from 2 weeks to 2 years. Just happy shes not in pain Smile Thanks

Just a quick update on my old girl - unfortunately I had to have her pts on Tues - the tumour had spread to her brain and she had fits and was unable to keep her balance so we did the kindest thing we could for her - managed to have her for 2 extra months but will miss her like hell Sad
