Our lovely Chocolate lab, became swollen, He's been to the vets today and they think his liver is failing.
We have to wait for some blood test results within the next few days.
He's been sent home with some water tablets.
Has anyone got an experience in this we have just been left in limbo while waiting.
Google doesn't give you much to go on either.
He's 9 years 9months.

Liver failure is a very global term, there are a multitude of different causes which need blood tests, ultrasound scans and sometimes advanced imaging like CT or MRI to diagnose.
Some are very treatable others not so much.
Once you have a diagnosis you will have a better plan.

Thanks, he's had blood tests we are just awaiting one set of results and a ultrasound where they said his liver is small.
Hopefully we will get the results tomorrow.
I just feel so lost in limbo to what we can do if anything to help him.
Thanks for taking the time to reply.

No call yet :(.
I am so scared waiting to get this call.
I am scared they are going to say there's nothing they can do.
He's been my rock and got me through some really shit times.
My DH used to work away he kept me company and safe, He was there for me when I had a car accident and completely life changing.
He was there when I lost 2 babies in pregnancy.
I feel so helpless if we can't help him.

Oh Ddog didn't make it, He became worse at 17.00 so we called the vets they told us to bring him down at 18.30 but by 17.30 he was a lot worse DH managed to get him in the car but he died on the way to the vets.
They called at 17.35 to say the bloods came back and they weren't good and there wasn't anything they could of done.
We are absolutely heartbroken. He's been gone less than 3 hours and the house feels so empty without him.

I'm so sorry for your loss op . I guess there's some solace that he hasn't suffered for a long time.

So sorry to hear this. It's awful when it's your dog's time. 😔

Our black lab had the same at aged 9. He'd been taking anti arthritis drugs which hastened his liver issues.

Your dog was loved. He knew he was loved. It's the greatest thing for a dog to feel that. And you didn't let him suffer. What a lovely person you are.
