Insurance- new to this

Apologies if this is a stupid question, but I've not for much experience re pet insurance. Ddog had vet visit last week. Think that a lump on her leg is likely to be benign, but getting sample checked just in case. Bill is just over £170. Insurance excess is £95. Would you claim from your insurance? Given that we'd have to let them know about any diagnosis is there any benefit in not claiming??

I'd claim, because if it turns out to be something more, you've then got a paper trail for it.

I've just submitted a second claim as DDog had a nasty ear infection that ended up needing lab samples, anti itch meds, drops and antibiotics. Cost nearly £300. Just paid that claim, and then she got it in the other ear and we went through the same procedure. Vet now thinks she may need allergy testing etc so I've claimed again and it should come all under one umbrella.

Depends on insurer and if they tend to bump up premiums or excess after a claim in which case it's probably not worthwhile. Petplan don't so I put everything I can through.
Usually there is a time period allowed to submit claim in some it's 90days others a year, if longer can wait and see if any follow up treatments and decide then.

The paper trail is vets notes which is why the insurers make you submit full history, including any other vet practices visited on your first claim to make sure it wasn't pre-existing condition.

Although I've assumed you've a lifetime cover policy, rather than a 12 month one where condition is excluded on renewal.
