I've got a working cocker aged 7 - he seems to understand everything you tell him. He knows all of his toys by name (like Mr Badger, Mr Sprout, squeaky hopper) and will bring the right one. He knows all the usuals - especially wait - and "which way?" when out on a walk to focus him. His favourite word of all time though is pheasant

His sister is 2, a sprocker and knows her own name. We've given up trying to teach her anything else

What about general sounds and looks?

Mine knows the sound of cheese being taken out of the fridge even several rooms away.

DHs car before it turns into the top of the road.

Tupperware being opened for his treats compared to those containing other foods.

The Tesco van as he runs behind a specific baby gate as he knows he needs to be shut away.

Puppy training is reminder of very competitive parenting...

Ive an 8 year old Shorkie (Shih Tzu Yorkie) who knows so many words and phrases its crazy, we have to spell everything out all the time.

He knows and responds appropriately to;
Go get your brush
Go get in the car
Go have a wee
All family names including grandparents
Lets go peg the washing out (runs to back door)
Wheres “family member”
Lets go see “family member”
Do you want to go see your friends? (Doggy daycare, runs to front door)
It’s bedtime (goes off to bed)
Get down
No kisses (stops licking)
Get a drink of water (works inside and on walks from streams)
Let me put your jumper on (runs and hides even if I don’t have it in hand)
Its shower time (runs and hides)
Are you hungry, do you want din dins (he lies down if he is)
Go in “family members” bedroom
Find a stick

He gets the right toy when asked- frisbee, football, monkey, duck, elephant, butt plug (kong), pheasant, tiny ball, squeaker, lambie.

Mine can also tell what trousers I'm putting on from 3 rooms away. If I go into my bedroom and put on my jeans or joggers not so much as a murmur but if I put on my walking trousers he's straight through and glued to my side until we go out the door.

Same! I try and do it really slowly and quietly to trick him but he always knows!

I thought ours wasn't very bright but a lot of these words have clicked in the last month.

Have you found you've needed to specifically train them or they've just picked them up naturally?

Those that are specific commands had to be trained.

Others he simply picked up e.g. names of foods like 'DH is it time for his dentastix'

This thread reminds me of when ds was small and every other baby hit their milestones before him.

Ddog is 7 months old. He knows:
