I was just walking home with my dog today, when I saw a neighbour's dog walker taking their two dogs out. The younger dog a lively labrador, was running free with the lead still attached. She was all over the front gardens of several houses and even ran across the road, it's a very quiet close, so not especially worrying. She stopped and ate something in someone's front garden.

The dog walker wasn't making any attempt to get the dog back, although later, when they returned she was holding the dog's lead.

If that was my dog, I wouldn't be happy.

My question is, do I tell my neighbour? Or is it none of my business?

*She stopped and ate something in someone's front garden. The dog, not the dog walker, lol.

Yes I think she has a right to know. I would be livid. What if it suddenly sees a cat and makes a bolt for it.

Yes I would tell them. Anything could happen to it or it could cause an accident. Also dog theft is rife within my area (including snatching dogs from gardens whilst the owners are at home !) It wouldn't take much for someone to notice and bundle it into the back of a van.

Yes, you should tell your neighbour.

I'd be furious if I knew someone who was supposed to be in charge of my dog was letting her run around like that and would want to know.

Allowing the dog to eat things in people's garden is just awful. Could have been anything.

Massively irresponsible.

Thanks everyone. I've just called round but they're out. I'll try again later.

Yes please do tell the owners. Dog walker sounds irresponsible.

I called again and told them what had happened. They were very pleased that I had taken the trouble to speak to them.

Glad you were able to speak to owner. I'd be horrified if this was my dog walker & it doesn't bode well to general safety if they though it was a ok thing to do.
Its also the walker that's legally responsible whilst dogs in their care & their liability insurance that would be claimed against.

Well done, I'd be horrified to hear that and very relieved to be told.

You did the right thing. I have seen some nightmare dog walkers myself the owners would be mortified. I have reported dog walkers to the local council and they have acted. Mainly for letting dogs off leash in livestock fields which have attacked sheep. One of the reasons I would never trust my dogs with a dog walker.
