Does anyone give their dog CBD oil?

Before anyone bites my head off, I'm not going to just do it willy nilly, I'm just trying to inform myself as best as I can before I make any decisions!

My dog collapsed a few days ago and it turns out she has a heart murmur on both sides of her heart. The vet said he wouldn't put her on meds just though, we'll see how we go. I was telling this to a friend of mine who lives in the US, he smokes cannabis and he said if it were his dog he would be tempted to try herbal remedies before going down the medication route and he suggested I try her on CBD oil.

I've been researching and it does seem to have benefits but I'm not so sure yet. I'm just concerned that if she does end up needing medication that I won't be able to afford it Sad I don't have a lot of spare money. She's not insured anymore either because when she turned 8, the premiums shot through the roof and I just couldn't find £80 a month Sad

Has anyone given it to their dog for a heart murmur or any other health problem? Has it helped?

I give it for arthritic pain and occasionally for anxiety. I think it's miraculous for both.
For a heart murmur though, I would definitely be going down the veterinary route as to me that's a specific condition that medicine can help and there are drugs which may slow the progression.

yes but for arthritis which has worked really well.

I gave it to my dog to try to stimulate her appetite when she was dying of cancer, the vet was happy for me to do so. There is a facebook group for Pets and CBD oil that I found really helpful at the time

If CBD has a place ( which remains to be seen) it would be for pain relief. Collapsing due a heart murmur is not due to pain and if anything CBD oil may suppress heart function. There are a large number of good medications for heart disease I am little confused why your vet didn't want to start meds.

@Lonecatwithkitten he just said we'll see how she goes for now 🤷🏼‍♀️ Unless he just meant there and then because he does want to see her again soon for a more thorough check over. So CBD is a bad idea for a heart issue then?

Yes but for arthritic pain. I don't really know how it would help with a murmur though.

It gave my Labrador terrible diarrhea though. Not sure how normal this reaction is.

Op have you contacted your local Pdsa to see if you are able to get reduced cost or free treatment?
It depends on your income but may be worth checking.

@fruitpaw we won't be eligible for any help, we don't get any benefits.
