Dog rain coats

We have a puppy who loves the water - in an out of puddles and streams. She's a cockerpoo. Do those equalfeece things work. Part of me thinks that's what dogs do - they get muddy and wet and they dry. Dog hates the hairdryer though, but will tolerate the drying towel I got her.

They work until your dog runs after a fox/squirrel into dense scrub and then comes back without its coat. I seem to be funding nice coats/tankies for the wildlife population of Epping Forest. Seriously, though, when wet with rain, they do remain dry next to the dog (perhaps not if they jump in a stream). I think, really, it is better than having to wash your dog when you get home. You can just throw the coat in the w/machine. I usually have 2 or 3 Equafleece coats or tankies at any one time.

I don't bother with a coat on walks. I keep a supply of towels in the car and then use one of those towelling coats for him to wear in the house while he dries out.

I do feel sorry for dogs I see in coats, on short leads who are never allowed to play and get wet and dirty. I remember watching a TV show where a lady put shoes on her dog because she didn't want the dirt/germs coming into her house...why get a dog then?!

My cocker hates coats. He refuses to walk in them.

I had thought about a fleece but he has a habit of belly flopping in really thick muddy stagnant puddles and I am not sure how I would wrestle a fleece off him without us all just getting muddy anyway.

Therefore I keep him clipped short (cocker) and hose him off after muddy walks. He wouldn't tolerate a hair dryer so by keeping his fur short he dries fairly quickly.

My dog has a couple of all in one equafleeces and various equafleece jumpers and coats that he wears in the winter . They do help a bit when he’s offlead in mud but the worst he does is wallowing in puddles as he’s not allowed in ponds / rivers due to his inability to leave the wildlife alone . I’m not sure they’d be any use if the dog actually swims .

I would recommend a ruff and tumble towel coat.
I leave it by the front door and put it on when we get back from a walk. Stops all the hair water and mud getting spread around the house.

@RunningFromInsanity Yes she's got one of those, her 'Rocky' coat. She's not overly thrilled by it but loves the fact that everyone goes 'aah' when they see her in it. She's torn between showing it off and trying to get it off.

my dog loves water and mud. I never bother with a coat. I just towel him dry.
