How are you keeping your dog cool?

Poor doggy is so out of sorts in this weather and our house is stifling.

I’ve been popping him in a cool bath every few hours (I don’t have a paddling pool) and plenty of fresh water but he’s just so bloody hot!

I’ve got a cooling mat but he won’t sit on it and keeps trying to sit on my lap - which is way too warm for both of us.

I’ve just frozen a pouch of dog food so he can eat it like a lolly and he seems to be enjoying it.

Any other tips? How are you keeping your dog cool in this weather?

I took mine swimming this morning - since then he's been lying in front of a fan!

@vanillandhoney how lovely! Mine doesn’t like the water but we do have a teeny river just behind our garden -it’s probably only a couple of inches deep - so maybe I could take him there. He usually won’t step foot in it though

Mine loves ice cubes with a bit of food frozen in the middle, and occasionally a big version made in a silicon muffin tray.

Frozen chicken broth lollies for my girl spoilt! but mainly a cooling mat and a fan. She's a sunbather so I have to be mean and make her come out of the sun every now and again to cool off.

She is currently in her V fluffy bed though

He doesn't normally swim but I took him out with my dog-walking dogs so I think he felt a bit pressured to join in

He's currently sat next to DH and hoping he'll be given a beef crisp!

Mine had a haircut this morning and it's very short now so he's much cooler than he was yesterday. He's also been been having squirts of the hosepipe when I've been watering the garden!

Normally he paddles but today he probably went out and swam with two collie boys who are absolutely water obsessed!

A fan and the odd ice cube. He's a fluffy monstrosity so I feel really sorry for him. He's in full grump mode and has taken himself outside now it's cooler.

My dog is massive so I soak a bath towel in cold water, wring it out and put it over him. He happily wanders around in it.

Mine prefer either lying outside in the shade or on the wood floor in the kitchen. The puppy is the only one sensible enough to use the cool mat!

Try a fan ,cold wet towel and icy water to drink. My doggie is now outside lying on the lawn which is cooler now it is dark .

Mine likes an occasional ‘proper’ human ice lolly
But I never do anything really to cool her down, keep her in the house if it’s too hot to go out, she actively moves away from the fan and is usually found asleep baking on the floor infront of the open back door (where the full sun shines through and the floor is boiling!)

Got him a cooling mat but he never uses it during the day, don't know why, it's just a night thing for him.
He has 3 cold showers per day recently. Doesn't like it but he feels way better afterwards.
He's a corgi so he's quite fluffy. And he's pretty old now, almost 14. Absolutely not built for heat waves.

Two of mine are polar breeds. I bought an air conditioning unit. It cost about £300 but it works. My room is 16c even when its 30c outside. I invested in it as it will get used every year. Other than that I do early walks and very late walks in woods which are shaded.
