Procedure at your vets practise for X-ray.

We took our dog in this morning for an X-ray and were told we'd get a call in about 2 hours to let us know how it went.
As we'd not heard anything we phoned them after almost 3 hours and she still hadn't had it!
Finally got a call an hour ago to say she'd had the X-ray and we are picking her up in a couple of hours.

Is this normal procedure? We were under the impression it would all be done and dusted in the two hours as she was only being sedated, but the vet we saw said it was a general.

The other thing is when we phoned about her having this done they called giving us a quote. The vet we saw today was another different one and asked us what quote we'd been given. Surely that should be on her notes?

I don't know if we are being unreasonable about the amount of time taken, and the what appears to lack of clarity with regards to the quote.

Can't wait to have her home. It's been too quiet without her here and following me around :(

Just a thought, could an emergency have come in, meaning the x ray needed to be delayed or the dog/ cat in front of yours have a medical emergency whilst sedated for x ray. This happened to an old boy of ours, sedated for x ray and had a heart arrythmia and ended up in dog ITU until he could be operated on - pretty sure he caused a big que after him.
The quote part sounds bad management tho

I have waited all day for certain procedures simply because emergencies are prioritised ahead of more routine ones. So that sounds fairly normal to me.

As for a quote then I guess they may be checking what you had been told. For example I have sometimes been given a ball park figure which may be less or more in the end depending on whether they had to use more drugs or do additional procedures.

Usually you drop off first thing, but... there might be other animals getting that sort of stuff done too, so yours might not be first.

Also, they get bumped for emergencies.

Like hospital day cases I suppose?

So it’s fairly normal to drop them off but then they have a wait before their stuff is done.

Don’t know about the quote, tbh, I don’t know what is or isn’t put on records, I kind of suspect prices aren’t? But I could be wrong.

I should also say I have rushed my dog in for emergency surgery after an examination so mine would have bumped routine procedures down the list that day.

I think its pretty normal. My dog had an ultrasound recently, no sedation or anything, and she was there from about 8-4.

Thanks for the replies. That's good to know. I said to dh I suspect it's like at day surgery, where any emergencies quite rightly come first. Though, with day surgery, or at least ours, there's morning and afternoon admissions.
We're off to get her in a bit. I just hope the charge isn't way over our quote pray
