Only started today and I have a vet appt this afternoon.

Google search is scary and I’ve also got the added worry that his is a recent rescue with no insurance yet.

He is approx 10, is there any easy fix and what can it be?

Try not to panic. It could be any number of things but you won't know until the vet has had a look at him. The good thing is you've picked it up straight away and the sooner these things are caught, the easier the treatment is likely to be.

Thank you, I am worried. I know I’ve not had him very long but, he is such a sweetie and obviously struggling

How did it go?

Report
GazingAndGrazing · 06/08/2020 23:44

Injection and antibiotics for UTI, if no better in 48 hours they want to see him again.

He still can’t go and is in discomfort, I’m still up with the patio door open for him to try, he isn’t great, I’m really worried

It may take a while for the antibiotics to start working - hoping he is soon able to go.

Hope the antibiotics help soon. We had a cat with a UTI and he had truly awful symptoms. Recovered fine. Good luck.

Morning, he did sleep well, which is good. Still not able to go but I appreciate the tablets need to kick in, bless him.

I'm glad he had a good night. He may start to go at first in tiny dribs and drabs (that's what happened when one of my cats had a UTI) so keep an eye out for any little damp patches.

Has he not passed any urine at all since yesterday? Does he have a full bladder? I’m no vet, but in humans that would be an emergency and we would be catheterising him as a matter of urgency, not to waiting for the antibiotics to kick in. Did the vet say what you should do if he still wasn’t passing urine today?

Yes, they sad give the injection and tablets 48 hours and if not sorted take him back.

He is dribble wee’ing and drinking lots

He was very uncomfortable last night but seems calmer today so I’m hoping that’s a good sign that it’s not anything more serious.

My daughter has Fowler’s syndrome so I’m well aware of catheterising etc she has to self catheterise on bad days.

That’s alright then, and yes I agree that if he’s more comfortable that’s a really good sign! I just read the OP and alarm bells started ringing but it sounds like you’ve got it under control. Hope he’s on the mend soon!

Sad to say, he isn’t getting any better, off his food although poo’ing and drinking lots of water but not able to wee more than a dribble even though his is constantly trying.

I’m going to have to let the rescue and vet know today. Apart from being off his food he is the same adorable sweetie.

Oh bless him, I really hope he's ok.
I think it's brilliant that you've given an older dog a new start by the way.

Thank you, his owner died, CV-19 and the police found him in the apartment with him Sad I couldn’t say no and he is such an amazing boy.

I can’t help but think it’s not going to end well...

Wee shame , bless you for taking the old boy in. IME tablets would have kicked in by now. Hope he's OK.

Oh, no Sad. Can you get him back into the vet today?

Report
GazingAndGrazing · 08/08/2020 11:30

I’ve had a telephone call with the vet nurse and have an appt at 4.30 today.

I think they are going to sedate, scan or ultra, hopefully it’s a kidney stone so he can have a muscle relaxer to help pass it. Worst case is a tumour.

I’m trying to hold it together but the thought of him not being here is horrible.

I’ve told the rescue and asked if they have a vet I can pay a discount rate to but they don’t have anything local and my boy knows our vet and nurses so I’m going to pay for the above and hope for the best.

Keep your fingers crossed for us please.

We had to take him in early, he deteriorated and I spoke to the rescue vet who said he is a medical emergency .

It’s just a waiting game now although the vet didn’t sound very hopeful seeing as he is an oldie with no history.

Thank you for being here, I really appreciate it
