Picked up my puppy today and was given the Kennel Club papers by the breeder. I don't really understand the benefits of registering with them, can someone please explain it to me?

Why did the breeder not register them?

I think it's to transfer the registration to me

It shows they're the breed the breeder claims they are. You're often also given four weeks of free insurance with the KC too.

Plus I think you can see your pups history and health conditions?

If you want to compete in some dog sports they need to be KC registered or entered on the activity register.

If they are already registered by the breeder you do want to change the registration to your name - and state you are the legal owner.

You can do it online and it clarifies who owns the dog. You need a KC reg for showing or field trialling.

Honestly, it takes about five minutes.

Serious question. Why would the breeder not complete the KC registration for the new owner before the puppy leaves? Same thing as registering the microchip surely?

It's standard to have to do this, it's a typical tactic by the KC to make more money. You don't have to register them to you if you don't want to

You have to transfer the KC and microchip details to your own name once the puppy comes home. It isn't a case of the breeder not registering them, if they hadn't registered them they wouldn't have any paperwork at all.
