Have you ever stayed in a hotel with your dog?

We might have to do this. The hotel accepts dogs. Just wondering how people found it.

We have several times. I prefer now to stay in apartments or chalets/holiday cottages with him but it's certainly doable.

Will Ddog be on their own for a while? Is there a chance of damage? Or noise?

They were the worries for me and it was annoying having to walk for miles out of the hotel for him to do his business.

Once in a chalet when we walked back he was howling too so he probably annoyed people.

We are going away next week and I am a bit nervous how he will cope with being left in the room as he has a bad paw so we can't walk him everywhere with us.

I doubt we would leave the dog. It’s only for one night so will probably be fine.

Yes, several times. If in UK have tended to put dog in car during meals, in mainland europe many places accept dog in restaurant (or leave in room).

It's not great tbh. It's always a walk out the building to take them to toilet (not like just opening back door) so you've got to make sure they can make it with no accidents. Don't assume you'll be near reception or a door!! I've been on the second floor before

Then u get other guests banging about so if u have a dog that gets disturbed by that it's also a pain

Not something I'd do unless I really had to.... it's no fun holiday

Yes The Hilton in Bournemouth, we were on 6th floor so he came in the lift. Had to sit on a table right at the front edge of the restaurant for breakfast, he came with us, left him in the room for 30 mins and had a drink in the fancy bar at the top of the hotel.

He’s also stayed in a couple of Travelodges and we left him in the room for breakfast.

Stayed in some pubs that take dogs too, one had a ‘dog sausage menu’ for breakfast time.

Our dog is reasonably small, and quiet, he doesn’t bark if left alone so it makes it ok but each time it was only overnight, if we go away for longer we hire a cottage.

Ours was scares6 hearing other people walk past the room through the night. We found leaving the TV on low helped settle her and drown out the other noise a bit.

Lots of times but mostly Travelodge tbh. It's a pain taking them out for a late night/early morning wee. Also a pain when they decide to bark at every footstep outside the door but it's okay!

Yes - it is fine. I have stayed in travelodge but the food places are often not dog friendly. I prefer to find a dog friendly pub with rooms to stay. Have had some lovely stay overs.

Yes we had a two night stay in York last year and are staying 3 nights in Bath next month.
We always get a slightly bigger room to accommodate.
Had no problems in York and hoping to have a similar experience in Bath.

I suppose it partly depends on what your dog is like and certainly with our puppy at the moment I wouldn't consider a hotel, but some hotels set aside an appropriate part of the hotel for dog rooms sometimes. I heard the other day from my favourite Lake District hotel that they have done that, so it's all ground floor and straight out of the door to some grass, so eventually I think we might try that as it sounds doable.

I’ve done it a couple of times. Tbh it was annoying as fuck as the dog woofed every time someone walks past the room. It was not the lovely relaxing experience I thought it was going to be.

Yes, used to do it a lot with 1 dog but now I have 2 and it’s a bit harder - usually less space etc. Some hotels are really welcoming and as pp said, have areas or rooms which give easy outdoor access. One fairly local to me, gave us a room with French doors so we could take him out that way if needed.
My dogs are furniture hogs so I always took my own covers to put on if I left him in the room. I used to hang the do not disturb sign on the door if he was alone while we had breakfast or whatever. He was pretty chilled.

A few times but they've never been able to be left alone, so you have to find dog friendly places to eat or pop them in the car - which wouldn't work on warm days.

I've been lucky with places with ok access, one had a dog route down a fire escape which DDog was surprisingly ok with.

Nice for a short break but anything longer I prefer a holiday cottage, enjoy!

Yes, we took our aggressive terrier to a dog friendly B&B once (a stop off in Carlisle on the way to holiday lodgings in Scotland from England). It was fine, we popped her in the car while we had dinner - she was ways fine in the car, as long as it wasn't hot obviously - then just kept her in the room. She didn't alert to sounds outside (strangely, she was quite a barky dog), I think the worst thing was that her tummy started making the most awful growling gurgling sounds and I panicked and took her outside twice in the night in case she had the shits! It was a long, dark route to the main entrance, the door was old, huge and incredibly creaky, and the dog had a habit of screeching like a banshee with excitement when she went through a doorway, so it was all a bit stressful. But she didn't have the shits, we didn't appear to wake anyone and all was fine in the end.

@Epictantrum Keswick Country House Hotel. The old station is an annexe anyway and they’ve made into the dog part of the hotel I believe, which means the rooms all go out onto the old platform without much a walk and then you are outside with grass and a walk if you want. I’ve stayed in the annexe before and it’s very nice so I can see that working very well.

We normally take Ddog to hotels with us. We have a soft travel crate that she sleeps in or stays in if we go swimming etc and we leave the radio on low, but normally she comes down for meals with us. Many places will happily set up a table in the bar for you if dogs aren’t allowed in restaurant.

We tend to stay in “nice” pubs rather than Hotels. Pubs are more dog friendly and the dog can come with you in the restaurant. I can recommend a couple of Cotswold ones for anyone who is interested.

If anyone fancies a holiday in Austria, I stayed in an amazingly dogfriendly hotel in Seefeld. There was a special dining room where you could eat with your dog, choice of menu for the dog (including fillet steak), dog play areas and swimming pond, it was incredible.

It was fine, I needed to walk down to take him out for toileting but he was older and predictable so it wasn't a problem. We put him in the car for meal times but it wasn't summer and not hot.

Dog is very well behaved and trained so I find that owners see this they are fine for us to leave him in the room for short periods. Otherwise we would go and eat in a pub or dog friendly cafe.

Yes many times, he likes it it seems. Choose one that allows dogs in part of the eating areas (often in the conservatory or bar area) as it makes breakfast easier. Mine is fine left in the car, essential as most hotels don't allow them unattended in the room and we wanted a swim each day. He loves a night out at the pub too so it's his idea of fun we think (always gets spoilt by the staff)
