Diahorrea - should I feed DDog or not?

Hi all,

We have a rescue dog, approx 3 years old. He is a Saluki. He has has a runny tum on and off since Sunday. Tuesday he was fine but he had lots of episodes on Monday and by 7.30am today he had had two episodes, including one in the house overnight (when he also weed overnight for the first time in about 2.5 months). We have had him for 3 months. This is the first tummy problem he has had and we haven't changed his food. He has also not been out in the heat, so it's not heatstroke (and it started on Sunday when it wasn't so hot).

On Sunday he found a random old bone in the garden. We are not sure how it got there. I spotted him eating it. I don't know how much of it he had but it looked like a cooked bone from a Sunday roast. He also had a bit of cheese flan (a small bit about the size of half a banana!). The ingredients were just flour, milk, cheese and eggs. And he ate some old bird poo off my car, but that was on Saturday and he was fine then.

He is acting okay in himself.

I rang the vet and we are going tonight, partly because he never had his registration check-up as it was right in the middle of the stricter part of lockdown. I asked if I should feed him. They said I could do (chicken and rice), or I could just leave it, and I am not sure what to do.

I could really use some advice as I have never had to deal with this before. Please be gentle!

I would offer him a small amount of chicken/rice. If he eats it that’s great, if not it really doesn’t matter.
Clinically the vet has ruled it as being insignificant so your main objective is to get him comfortably through to clinic time.

Thanks for the reply. I popped out to the butcher to get a chicken thigh!

It might be a worthwhile experiment anyway I suppose to see what comes out the other end........

I would not feed for 24 hours. Just provide plenty of water. Probiotic Paste is excellent for tummy bugs. I buy mine in Amazon or Vet sells it. I always keep some in.
