My beloved dog sadly passed away

He was the kindest dog I've ever known he never even barked his whole life, he took turns sleeping on my DS or my bed, he passed peacefully through the night while sleeping on my DS bed.

He was 11 years old and I don't know how I'm going to cope without him. His name was Harry and he was so special. Don't know why he died he wasn't unwell at all I saw him at 4 this morning and he was fine but at 8 this morning he was gone.

I’m so sorry, you must be devastated, not only devastated but in huge shock as well as you have not had anytime to prepare for this. It won’t be any comfort now, but it sounds as though he slipped peacefully away, I hope in the months to come this will bring you some comfort that he did not suffer. You loved him, he will have known that, RIP dear Harry and please be kind to yourself Theodoreb, my heart goes out to you xx

I’m so sorry for your loss. I’ve lost two beloved dogs in the last two years and it’s like a hole in the heart. But time does help. And what a wonderful way for him to go. Quietly and without suffering while snuggled up to someone he adored. Big hugs to you all.

Oh I am so sorry, what a terrible shock. Harry was a lucky dog who was loved and will be missed. Be kind to yourself OP, losing a much loved pet is so heartbreaking.

I'm so sorry! And to happen out of the blue is horrific.

There is nothing like the love of a dog and it is utterly heartbreaking when they leave us. When we lost our DDog we had to stay at a friends for a week as couldn't bear an empty house.

Such a great picture of him. Obviously a happy and well looked after dog.

Thinking of you. thanksthanksthanks

I feel your pain, there is a massive hole in your life.
My 15 year old dog was pts on Monday and it was awful. But he had a good life and was much loved.
I’m sorry for your loss especially as it was so unexpected.
Here is his with our other dog. He has the blue collar.

Theodoreb Wed 17-Jun-20 16:34:33

Thank you all, it does help as I know he wasn't in much pain as if he was he would have woke me up and was cuddled up with DS and I know he was happy and knew he was loved.

DD1 and DD2 are quite upset but not as bad as DS1 as he and I did most of Harry's care.

Thanks for all your posts of support x

What a handsome boy! I'm so sorry for your loss, it's heartbreaking.

EmotionalFlood Wed 17-Jun-20 16:38:49

He's such a handsome boy. I'm so sorry for your loss OP. I know I'd be beside myself but just remember, he lived his best life with you and your family thanks

devildeepbluesea Wed 17-Jun-20 16:38:58

I'm so sorry @Theodoreb and @caramac04 for your losses.

But what a wonderful way for Harry to go, so close to people he loved, safe and warm.

And caramac, you will in time be so proud that when it mattered you put your dog's needs before your own wants. The best and last gift we can give.

I'm so sorry. Losing a dog is heartbreaking. We lost ours suddenly too. He was fine one minute then suddenly collapsed. He came to but we rushed straight to the vet anyway. As we got him in he collapsed again. Never came around. It was a tumour on his heart. He was only nine. We were all devastated and it took weeks to not cry every time I found fluff from his coat or a toy under the sofa. Hopefully you can take comfort from knowing your dog had a loving and happy life.

Aww that is so sad. Like honeyroar, I've also lost 2 of my precious dogs in the past 2 years, and it's just awful.

Your gorgeous Harry died safe, warm, and cuddling into someone he loved.

Bless you OP, and your DS too. X

CarrieMoonbeams Wed 17-Jun-20 17:00:25

I took ages to post because someone came to the door.

Sorry too to others who've gone through this recently as well. Our much-loved wee pets just wrap themselves around our hearts.

Chesneyhawkes1 Wed 17-Jun-20 17:02:16

Chesneyhawkes1 Wed 17-Jun-20 17:02:58

missrks Wed 17-Jun-20 17:05:46

Oooh nooo. So sorry for your loss. It's so difficult losing a pet. They really are family. Big hugs. X

fourquenelles Wed 17-Jun-20 17:10:24

I am so sorry Theodoreb. Harry looks like he was a fantastic dog and one of the bestest of boys. As others have said he passed peacefully and close to those he loved; an excellent way to go. I hope my 3 elderly boys pass in the same way.

Thinking of you and all who have lost their precious dogs recently.

Doggiehasgone Wed 17-Jun-20 17:43:25

I'm so sorry to hear this. I very recently lost my beloved dog, suddenly at home. The shock is terrible. flowers

Theodoreb Wed 17-Jun-20 19:55:05

I guess I'm very shocked dk how I'm going to sleep without him laying on my feet tonight. Kids are grieving in their own unique ways.

Oh, OP, yes - I struggled to sleep for several nights - I kept replaying his last hours over and over again. I don't really have any advice other than to keep in mind that this is a huge trauma and accept that you will be mentally and physically affected, and to be as kind to yourself as you can. flowers

Theodoreb Wed 17-Jun-20 21:26:01

I keep thinking about last night I had been tickling his belly for about a hour but my back started hurting (I have a really bad back from a car crash) so I told him no more and he was sad if I had known I would have sat up all night stroking him. Feel so guilty and like I let him down.
