The doghouse

Housetraining woes.

I have a greyhound lurcher puppy, she’s approaching 11 weeks.
I’m dry weather she doesn’t wee or poo in the house at all, will take herself out and will potter in the garden.

In the rain however, everything happens indoors.
I take her out and stay with her, for up to 3/4 hour, but she holds it in.

Any tips?
(I’m new to lurchers, I’ve been told that apparently they melt in the rain - have had other working breeds that weren’t bothered)

Have you tried standing outside with a brolly? Sounds silly but it's common for pups not to pee when it's raining and it could be a combination of the wet, noise (their hearing is very sensitive) and smells come out when the ground it wet. If you have no luck after 5 minutes, bring your pup back in and try again in 10 mins or when your pup is showing signs of needing to go (feverishly sniffing the ground) but watch them like a hawk and keep them near the back door to pop them out ASAP. Sometimes if you leave them outside for too long, the urge might go, a bit like when we desperately need the loo and then find the grottiest public toilet and the urge disappears!

I’ve used a brolly, I’ll also put her under a ferret hutch where it’s dry (and is her favourite spot when there’s no rain), but she refuses.
As soon as she comes in she wees.

I feel ridiculous posting this, as I’ve had dogs for over 30 years and never had any problems housetraining!

Our Bedlington Poodle mix puppy is the same at 12 weeks though he won't even perform in the dry!
We are having a day focusing on getting this right.

So please all ideas welcome !
OP I send much empathy and Gin!

Have you tried putting a coat on her?

I’ve bought a coat - she can’t walk in it yet (she lies on the floor!), so I’m hoping with time that’ll work.
