We are new dog owners and our nearly 10 week old french bulldog is very healthy and happy.

Our only issue is when my boys play Lego, she goes for the bricks etc. We dont want to shut her behind the stair gate where she can see us but I see no other choice.

We have a stair gate for night time use which has worked really well. (So far) and she doesn't wimpier or whine.

Any tips?

Why not just play with the Lego on a table out of her reach? Also make sure she has a box of things she is allowed to play with. Distraction is the name of the game with pups.Smile

The only solutions are to keep her out of the room, or to keep the lego out of her reach. It is hard but that's life with puppies and some adult dogs - they like to eat everything possible Grin

Or you could maybe try leashing her and tying her up somewhere so she's in the room with you but can't get to the toys? Unfortunately, letting a puppy loose with things on the floor will never end well for the toys!

Thanks @vanillandhoney and @BrownOwlknowsbest

I just felt so cruel hearing her whimper while me and the boys played with Lego. She had all her toys, just wanted attention 🥰

I'll try the table but I'm guessing she may just have to watch behind the gate.

Hi Op!

I've got a Frenchie pup, she's 14 weeks old

She likes to steal barbies and we've even had baby annabells dummy being used by her! (That was kinda cute....)

We have been just shutting her outside of the play room when it's in use. To be honest I think it's good practice for her anyway, don't know about your pup but mine is very attention seeking and needy, so time away from us especially in lockdown is defo needed anyway.

We sometimes do have her in the room and give her bone to her but I don't feel it's fair to tell her off if she grabs the toys then as it's kinda fair game if we don't move them away.

The whining tho... she doesn't sound like a dog!!! At first I panicked and thought she was hurt!!🤣

It's hard, isn't it? I've got a 7 year old DS and a nearly 9 week old puppy and managing the attention needs of both is tough! We're lucky in that we've got two reception rooms so the puppy is in the back room and kitchen all the time at the moment, they've got wooden floors and patio door access to the garden so good for house training. My son's toys are all in the front room anyway, so we just keep that door closed for now and when puppy is napping in the back room, we go and play in the front room. For me it's just less stressful to keep the back room completely toy free rather than battle with the puppy to not chew them for now...

They will get used to it with time :)

Instead of toys have you tried giving her a stuffed kong or similar so she has some food? It has the benefits of keeping her occupied as well as tiring her out as it makes her brain work. Mine would sleep for hours after being given a kong at that age!

We bought our pup home on Thursday, I have my sons old pop up ball pit so when we have any toys out that could be risky for her (such as swallowing) I have been popping him in there.

I’m going to get a proper dog pen so his crate can also go in there, that also means when we start doing small periods of time of him being alone he has a safe area to be in.

Thanks everyone.

She seemed pretty happy in the gated area after a while.

It's a nightmare just tidying up after the kids all the time 😂

I'll look into one of them kong toys......do you just stuff wet food in them or dry?

You can get ones that you put wet food into the hole or others that you put dry food into the hole and as it rolls it comes out. Depends what toy you get.

My Frenchie particularly likes banana or peanut butter in hers. She goes mental for bananas 🍌

You can get either :)

Mine isn't a massive fan of dry food on it's own so he has them stuffed with wet - not necessarily dog food either. He loves peanut butter, mashed bananas and tinned tuna too.
