The doghouse

Surely my dog can poo on the pavement if I pick up immediately?

Well it seems I am "in the doghouse".
Taking my dog for a walk, on the lead, with DH and DD at the weekend. The dog squatted down to poo on the pavement, outside a neighbour's house (NOT on their property). The owners were sitting in their front garden and started complaining, saying I shouldn't let him poo there, it was disgusting. I said that I was going to pick it up. Then they said I should move him so he finished his poo in a woody bit down the street. I said I didn't want to pick him up mid-poo, and that I would pick it up immediately. They kept calling out, saying how disgusting it was.
After I had picked it up, they said that I ought it to hose the ground down and they were going to get their hose. Actually (if you'll excuse the description), the poo was so firm that no trace had been left. I had a water bottle with me, so I washed away the (non-existent) traces. They continued to call out abuse and f-words, even with my dd present, and the exchange turned extremely unpleasant.
As I walked away, another neighbour called out the window "well done", meaning the unpleasant owner, not me!! I think they thought I was someone who hadn't picked up.
I am fuming.
As far as I am aware, city or countryside, the dog poos, you pick up: that's it. You don't try and catch it, or move it, or shield the process from view. I can't even imagine what the alternative is.
What do you think?

I think they were being ridiculous. Dogs are trained not to go in the house (as a rule) and outside is fair game to them. If the dog had an upset stomach and it wasn't possible to pick it up then they would have cause to ask you to wash it away. Anything else is just melodramatic on their part.

YANBU at all, they're being ridiculous.

Some people just like to complain though! As long as you pick it up, why does it matter?

yeah course, when they've got to go they've got to go. You were picking it up so should be fine

Good on your neighbours. You dog owners are so entitled. How would you like it if I took a shit outside your house? Or growled at you on a narrow path or sniffed your picnic lunch? I bet you'd call the police. So why's it ok if your mangy hound does it instead??

I think it's fine if you pick up straight away and leave no trace of the poo! Bet they're not out washing away any dirt on the path. What if it was a child being sick on the path would they have told you they should be sick in the woody bit down the street?!

I don't see the problem it's not like they walk bare foot, even if they do they can't know how many shits have been done on the path and God knows what else!

Whaaaat @cleopatrascorset are you being serious????

I haven't actually thought about this before but I've never been annoyed if someone's dog pood outside my house, as long as they pick it up that's all that really matters?!

Do they own this little bit of pavement?

My little doggy had a poorly belly the other evening and it wasn't pick-up-able, so my other half went back and got the watering can and washed the pavement. It was outside someone's house. It couldn't be helped, I didn't realise she wasn't feeling well and she stopped all of a sudden.

I would totally understand if you didn't pick up after your dog but that's just so strange. And so rude.

And foul language is just not needed. They are clearly very very bored.

Maybe we should strap poo bags to our dogs bums???? 🤣

They would of loved watching my regime with my dog. She's a Frenchie and sometimes you actually have to wipe her bum so I have to take wet wipes too. That would of finished them off!!!!! 🤣🤣🤣

Your neighbours are weirdos.

But to be fair, you saw them sitting there, you could have dragged the dog a bit so the actual poop landing happened further along rather than directly in front of their view.

I would have pointed out that rats, mice, cats, birds and all sorts of other creatures will have urinated and defecated outside their house and one of them will have removed the evidence. At least you removed it. There was no need for them to become abusive. It’s tells you enough about what sort of people they are that they would swear at you over this. Ignore them in future.

I'd have been tempted to join the dog in taking a dump, but I'm not exactly renowned for being overly reasonable with stupid people.

You did nothing wrong.

There was a dog with a really upset stomach outside my house one day it went everywhere she apologised said she was going to clean it up I was very hmm thinking how? Went into the house to get some water etc she sent her teen back up with soapy water no trace left by the time she finished I cant complain if only the rest of my festering estate was as good as her

Ignore them. If they're the type to start swearing at you over a minor disagreement, any discussion isn't going to go well.

As long as your dog doesn't mess on their property, and you pick up any mess, they don't have a leg to stand on. I'd cross over rather than pass directly by their house, just for the quiet life.

Oh fuck off

Dogs are going to poo when they walk. As long as you pick it up and it isn’t on your garden, why is wrong?

I've got a dog. Her poos are always firm and pick up able . I actually think it's pretty gross to let them go on the pavement by someone's house. I've trained mine so she doesn't go in our garden, in the House (obvs) or on the pavement. She will go on a verge if desperate but generally waits and goes on grass off lead (which I pick up). I would be very embarrassed if my dog squatted down outside someone's house whilst they were there.

Those idiots sound very unpleasant. Especially with all the swearing. Of course it’s ok. I mean in an ideal world nobody would shit, humans or animals but hey ho.....shit happens. Guess I’d prefer not to see a dog taking a dump but I don’t scream at dog owners when it happens.

YANBU, it’s hardly as if you made your dog poo on command outside their house! As long as it’s cleared up and disposed of responsibly I can’t believe that anyone would complain.

Not illegal as long as you pick up but I do try to encourage mine not to go on pavement , (will generally go in verge )etc if I can but sometimes can't be helped

I fail to see what's funny. I put a nappy on my baby to stop her crapping on the pavement. Why can't you do world the same courtesy for your "fur baby"?

Are you ok? There’s a big difference between an adult human taking a dump on the pavement and a dog. She picked it up unlike the man I saw squatting last year along a main road in London.

I'm a dog owner and always got told to train my dog not to poo on the path. Mine now only poos on grass or in the woods /field. I guess if she had an upset tummy then it would come out wherever she was at the time. Generally dogs don't like weeing on the path as it splashes back at them but not sure about poo.
