Hiya. We adopted a standard dachshund just before lockdown. She came with a pets at home step in harness. But we discovered after a longer walk that it had rubbed her elbow raw. We've since been using a different type, an over the head one which tightens round her neck & buckles under her tummy & has a fairly substantial chest plate. It had been fine until yesterday when she managed to completely escape it - still got no idea how, because everything was still tightened up when it was retrieved.

Just wondering if there are any other dachshund owners on here (or even non dachshund owners) who could recommend the harness they're using? She pulls quite a bit & the Julius K9 powerhouse has been suggested to me, with the Y plate to stop her backing out. Any thoughts please?

Thank you! Smile

Perfect fit is supposed to be very good.

Look at the brand Curli on Amazon, very comfortable for my dachshund crossbreed and she can't escape.

My escapologist terrier has Indi dog Houdini’s , they are excellent as well as washing very nicely .

Perfect fit all the way... as the three pieces come in all sizes so you can fir your own dogs shape.
But ideally go to a stockist that fits them for you. Min backed out of a K9 as a puppy and that's when we switched and I'd never use anything but a perfect fit now. Plus it's fleece lined and never rubs.

Indi Dog here too, everything else rubs his armpits red. I think they may have gone out of business though, but I did hear John Lewis stock them.

I have also heard good things about the Perfect Fit, but I couldn't get to grips with their confusing (to me) measuring guide.

Please don't get a Julius K9! They have a strap that goes right across the shoulders and restricts natural movement. You need a y-shaped one. Another vote for Perfect Fit here!

Perfect fit, Mekuti or T Touch harness.

I wanted a Perfect Fit for my little dog but ironically the lady in the shop couldn’t get the right fit so we ended up with a T Touch one.

Indi dog have not as far as I know gone out of business , the last communication I had was an email saying that their made to measure was being temporarily suspended for a few months but they were still selling off the peg . I think they fully intended to restart the made to measure service .

I have a basset hound (so similar long back) and we have a Perfect Fit harness. Used to have k9 but found it restricted shoulder movement and Perfect Fit is much better.

Thank you all again. Perfect fit looks good. Anyone used an online retailer? Now to get my head around the measurements!

I ordered ours from here and it's really easy for measurements.

Perfect fit. Couldn’t really fit out KCS with anything else - measure and ring them and they’ll tell you what to order if you’re not sure
