Our lovely lab cross was pts on Tuesday, we literally had 2 hours to get our heads round it. Monday night we noticed she didn't want to sit on the sofa , chose the rug instead very unusual. Tuesday morning she seemed to be breathing in her back instead of chest. My Dh took her to the vets who asked us to get her to the nearest animal hospital for an ultrasound and tests. Turns out she had cancer and her lungs and heart were being crushed by all the fluid around them. She had been on walks at the weekend and the day before, we had no signs anything was wrong. She had to be put down a few hours later. We had had her since she was 6 weeks old and she was 12. I just can't forget her standing there with us all crying over her as she was pts. I loved her so much I just keep crying all I want is to be back down the woods with her playing with us chasing sticks, miss her so much. Not asking for advice just wanted to write it all down 😢I feel so sad.

I'm sorry pumpkin that must have been a horrible shock to lose her so suddenly. I hope you'll get to a place where all the good memories displace those of her very short illness. It took me weeks to stop crying randomly after losing my Ddog.

That’s pretty much how it happened for us late last year. No time to prepare, not how you imagine your dog getting older and having chance to come to terms with it gradually.
It is so very painful, I know how you feel. It does get easier, I promise, but in the first weeks there seems nothing else to do but cry
We lost our lovely girl 2 months ago. We chose the date - - those 2 weeks were so awful.
Your ddog had an amazing life right up til the end - and at the end her loving family were with her. Trying to cram in all you want to tell them is hard isn't it?

We had the same happen but our dog was only 8, diagnosis and pts the same day. Hard isn’t it?

We lost a cat in a similar, very sudden and unexpected way. It is definitely harder to come to terms with than gradually seeing your pet go downhill, and having time to prepare. The only saving grace is your lovely dog was happy and enjoying life to the very end. She hasn’t suffered, it is you who has suffered in this situation. Give yourself plenty of time to come to terms with the shock, as well as the bereavement itself.

It's awful for you.
However please take some comfort that whilst brutally fast for you, it was wonderfully quick for your ddog. She went from enjoying lovely walks and family life to a quick and peaceful end, without pain or suffering or loads of tests.
It will be a dreadful shock for you but it's probably the best outcome for her - a good life and a quick death with a family that loved her. She was a lucky dog. Focus on the lovely memories you made together
