Can the breeder meet you half way?

Report
hotubhannah · 23/04/2020 22:29

Would that be allowed do you think?

I doubt it! Pet courier is an option

Ireland not the UK but in our area the local police posted on their social media that they'd fined someone for driving to collect a new lawnmower as non essential travel Shock

On another thread defra were quoted as saying breeders could deliver pups

My puppy is being delivered by the breeder next week, would that be an option? Just paying a little extra for their petrol etc.

Oh I could always ask it never occurred to me to ask her tbh...

I think breeders are allowed to deliver as it's their livelihood and can't do it from home. There is definitely advice out about it. At first it wasn't allowed sure rules were changed. Check Kennel Club site?

Breeders can deliver as it's their job and they can't do it from home, but you shouldn't be going to collect.

A family here were fined and turned around by police for driving several hours to try and collect their puppy.

There's a link to the KC guidance (which they hashed out with DEFRA) on another thread. The breeder can deliver, though they have to observe distancing and make the trip as short as possible.

We're taking the risk and going this weekend. Breeders can't really leave as they as running a working farm and stables of 40 horses with no staff but it's just over an hour for us. 7 hours might be pushing it but as above breeder is allowed to deliver to you. Seems a daft technicality though as risk is no different no matter which of you is on the road

@midnightstar66 please let us know how you get on, we're hoping to do a 3 hour journey to pick ours up next week. Breeders has 3 children and 5 other pups so seems silly that it's ok for her to drive the journey but not us, her husband is working in the RAF so is overseas, so she'd have to take her kids with her

midnightstar66 · 24/04/2020 14:12

It's one of those that common sense suggests the risks are the same either way so seems a silly stipulation

Breeder can deliver but in all honestly what’s the chances of you getting pulled over by the police?
Go on a weekday and don’t take the whole family, that’ll be a red flag.

We collected our puppy on Good Friday, and the drive was only just over an hour (Nottinghamshire to Barnsley) but I was really worried about this too. One of the other owners contacted West Yorkshire police on their online chat and they said that as long as the puppy had been bought before the lockdown it would be fine. So I printed off a copy of that chat as well as details of the contactless handover we'd arranged. We weren't stopped in the end, thankfully, but there weren't many cars on the road - mostly vans and lorries so we did feel very conspicuous. Good luck!

I collected mine this week
To be fair it was only a 1hr drive there and 1 hrs back.
No problems and we passed quite a few police cars and motorway traffic police
But there is no reason for the police to stop us unless there was a road block or we were driving stupidly :
There was a article in the paper about a couple who were stoped in Pembrokeshire travelling from Bristol to get a puppy . But the reason they were stopped is because there car had no insurance .

I actually think the weekend would be the worse time to travel as the police know that a lot more people will go out and travel on the weekend

Weekday in the daytime just you and your other half no kids for a family outing and you will be fine

I’m thinking of naming her Boris. 😂 she can be a gender fluid puppy

We've organised a 'puppy taxii' i didn't even know it existed until this post. He's got all the checks and insurance and correct vehicle etc. It's well worth it. If we went up with kids in a day it'd take so much longer with food and snack and wee stops. Can't wait. Thank you

I never knew 'puppy taxis' were a thing but that's great you've got one! When is puppy coming home, what are you getting?

We're going to collect ours. I don't see the difference between us or the breeder doing the journey. FYI before I get jumped on there's a reason why I'm saying we're going rather than the breeder dropping off.

Puppy due by lunch time!!!! We are all set crate, bed towel last newspapers, enjoyed at last morning of calm with our eldest lab. This one is a lab too. Puppy taxi is very reasonable considering if we went it'd be a family journey and much more hectic. The 'taxi' is full equipped and he plays stories to the pups as it calms them down! Sweet

We collected ours yesterday. 1.5 hour drive and definitely less risk factor us driving there in roads I know like the back of my hand as we got her from where I grew up and where I used to work, than them trying to negotiate unknown city streets. She's absolutely perfect. She's out on the garden playing fetch with the kids and already brings back the ball for them to throw

Breeder is bringing ours in a couple of weeks, not too far to drive. It is considered a welfare issue I believe
