Fox Poo remover shampoo. Any recommendations?

Hi all.

I’ve got a HUGE fox poo fan. He loves it and seems to find it at least 4x a week. I’ve tried a few dog shampoos which specifically mention fox poo but tbh, they don’t seem to work very well. They get him visibly clean but the odour remains, just with a faint smell of shampoo over the top

I thought it was ketchup (or tomato juice) for skunk smell - not a problem we have to deal with over here.

My friend the dogwalker reckons Head & Shoulders is the shizz.

We've resorted to ketchup before and then normal shampoo. I have a Fox 💩 fan too.

Neat tomato ketchup directly over the poo and rub in well. Wash out with washing up liquid and water (just in that area). Rinse well.

RottDog never met a poo or dead thing she didn’t want to roll in. Ketchup was the bomb.

Problem with ketchup is that I then have to wash him again, I don’t really want to have to do a double cleanse on the dog. Plus obviously it contains garlic and I don’t really want him ingesting it.

They are truly disgusting aren’t they? The sheer joy on his face when he is rolling in it is hilarious though, for about 0.03 seconds and then I remember the fannying about and fuss he’s just signed us up for

What breed of dog do you have?

I’m a dog groomer. My colleague always recommends the ketchup thing but I’ve never tried it myself and never needed to.

We get plenty coming in who have rolled in fox poo. When bathing a dog we dilute shampoo in a jug with water and use a shower puff to scrub the coat.

For fox poo I’d rinse the area well first, dunk the shower puff in the shampoo solution and scrub the affected area. Rinse and repeat.

He’s a lab. I do scrub the shampoo in with a bristly brush to get it into his double coat.

i have a poo rolling loving spaniel, if she has been in something stinky the ketchup does work best, mine gets put in the shower, rub the ketchup in then follow with the shampoo (we have an Aldi pet one at present). We are lucky as we are bordered by a river and she swims after mucky rolling which gets most yuck off.

Another fox poo fan here (well doggo is, I'm not!)
Ketchup then a good rinse then ordinary dog shampoo (I have one that smells like baby powder :) ) and I have a wet, grumpy but clean smelling dog.
Nothing makes my heart sink quite like spotting her doing that shoulder drop...

Washing up liquid on the poo area. It cuts that awful filthy grease. Then rinse and normal dog shampoo all over. Mine used to be a fiend for it. Has only done it once in the last year or more. The worst was four (4) times in 36 hours.

I used washing up liquid too, but fortunately it was a one off. It's not very good for their skin, so if it's 4 times a week that might not be the thing to try. Nothing else I tried got the smell out though, it's so terrible!

If you don't want to use ketchup, try white vinegar

She won't get sick from ingesting a tiny bit of ketchup. Garlic is fine for dogs in small quantities in fact Victoria Stilwell used to recommend it to encourage dogs to eat if I recall correctly!

Ketchup on the fox poo, scrub in thoroughly, then shampoo over the top and rinse.

We put a teaspoon of ketchup in our female dogs food. It stops her pee ‘burning’ the grass. She’s still going strong at 10

I had a working terrier who did this almost daily OP - many a time DH drove home with his head out the window, gagging.

If I'm honest there is virtually nothing that will get the stink out fully, we just grew accustomed to the faint foxy aroma and reassured ourselves that at least with all the bathing and shampooing, her coat was definitely clean. We did have a green shampoo with aloe that was quite effective, but sadly she died last year and I chucked the bottle away because I couldn't look at it. I forget what it was called, it had a big W on the clear bottle I think.

The smell does fade after a few days once it's out, but then they just do it again.

The worst thing she ever rolled in was pheasant shit, that actually smelled worse than rotting seagull.

Soda water is great, much less messy than ketchup. Work it into the offending area, rinse off and shampoo normally. It's saved us many a whiffy drive home.

I’ve got some ‘non stinky stuff’ balm in the fridge for sore bits. I tried a bit of that (finger tip’s worth melted and rubbed between my palms) and it worked. So that’s another solution! Quite £££ though. www.stinky-stuff.co.uk/products/dog-non-stinky/
