The doghouse

My dog was humped

I've never had a bitch before, I've googled and it says it's not possible but please reassure me.

She had her first season in February/March (conveniently days before she was due to be spayed). So I don't think she will be due to come into season again?

A dog cage over to her today, she was on the lead but said hello and wanted to play with him, he ran off and then came back and humped her twice. I pulled him off as his owners didn't come over or apologise. Please tell me she won't be pregnant 🙈

What do mean by humped? He tried to mount her and thrust a couple of times, or he actually did the deed? Given that you were able to pull him off, I suspect the former.

Is she showing any signs at all of being in season? She is unlikely to be given when she seasoned last. How did she react?

[The last dog who tried to mount my bitch was told, by her, in no uncertain terms, to Fuck Right Off. If she'd been receptively in season, it would have been a very different story.]

Also, maybe just phone your vet tomorrow. They will be better able to put your mind at rest than randoms on the internet.

As she was on lead and you pulled him right off I doubt anything happened that quick!

No, it's not that quick. I don't think you've anything to worry about there, but if you're worried call your vet tomorrow.

Dogs come into season a couple times a year. My dog just once. If this other dog just jumped on her for a few seconds he wouldn't have done anything - when they really do it they are practically glued together, though it is possible for her to get pregnant if this doesn't happen.

He just mounted her and humped for a few seconds each time, I don't think he actually did the deed. They obviously didn't go back to back. She kind of just lay there but she's so friendly with other dogs and just wants to play!

I don't think she's coming into season, she has been off her food the last few weeks but I think she's gone of the taste (it's hypoallergenic due to her sensitive tummy so it is bland!) but she still has an appetite and ate her scrambled egg and chicken so I don't think she's coming into season. I've seen no blood and last time it was very obvious! I don't want to waste the vets time as they are only open for emergencies - i think it was probably harmless!

Bitches are only fertile for a few days in the middle of their season, they can't get pregnant at any other time. If she's just had a season it would be extremely unlikely for her to have another so soon, it's generally every 6-8 months.

You would definitely know if you saw an actual mating, it's a different movement to humping and they then tie for anything from a few minutes to 40 minutes plus.
