Flea and worm treatment

I'm sure this will have been done before, but can you please recommend a flea treatment and worming treatment for a one year old Labrador. Our vets aren't currently doing this, so thought it may be easier to buy online but not sure what to use, what is most effective etc.

I think the only ones I would bother to use would be prescription only.

If your vets aren't issuing treatment I presume they aren't issuing prescriptions either?

Have you spoken to your vet about it? We are continuing to provide treatment that is on repeat prescription in a no-contact way (has to be paid over the phone and collected from outside) because we are in a high lungworm area and continued prevention is important. I'd consider monthly cover for lungworm, roundworm, fleas and ticks important, with intermittent tapeworming. Any product that covers that spectrum will be prescription only so you can buy online with a written prescription if your vet can't supply treatment at the moment. The BVA are likely to relax guidelines for all vets as lockdown is extended to include supply of preventative treatments in all areas. We are trying to balance our responibility to public health during the crisis with our responsibity to good animal welfare. And to answer your actual question I use Nexgard Spectra on my own dog, with a 6 monthly tapeworm tablet (Droncit).

Sorry didn't say what I use but same as PP I use Nexgard Spectra which is a monthly tablet as it covers most worms including lung worm, fleas and ticks.

I don't supplement that with the drontal but that is simply down to tolerance issues with my dog and risk/benefits have been discussed with my vet.

Thanks, will contact the vet, we have only had her a month prior to lockdown so she hasn't had any treatment from our vet as yet, will give them a call

Our vet had us weigh him over the phone and then we went and stood outside and they came out with the prescription. You could pay over phone or by tapping your card. I’d definitely ring vet and get the proper thing

Ok, vet is not permitted to supply it as they haven't seen her (she is registered with them but hadn't been to an appointment before lockdown) and they can't see her now because of lockdown! So, what do we do now?

Had vet seen her in the last 6 months? They can write a prescription that allows you to purchase their brand at a cheaper cost to you via online vet supplies.
Cost me 1/3 of their price. Script was £8..

This vet hasn't as we adopted her February, she went into season and then we went into lockdown the week of her first appointment, they are saying they cannot do any sort of prescription

Just in case anyone ends up in a similar position, we have ended up being helped by her previous vet who have been fantastic
