It was released today that all the vets in our area will not be doing vaccinations for the foreseeable future. They will only do emergency appointment such as surgery etc.

I have a puppy I'm due to pick up in two weeks, assuming we don't go on lockdown. I suppose staying in means it won't come in contact with any diseases which is good.

Anyone else due to get a puppy in the next few weeks?

Understand their reasoning but that's going to be hard on owners as getting mine vaccinated and off lead kept my sanity.

Our dog was vaccinated later than she should have been. We just kept her inside until she had reached the recommended timescales.

What would worry me is how long this would last.

You can still socialise your puppy whilst we are allowed outside e.g. get them used to traffic, noises etc but potentially not being able to walk them for ?weeks ?months would concern me because getting mine to do all things such as recall outside in those early months was vital before mine hit the teenage period.

Yes recall with a long distance will be limited now, didn't think of that.

I was worried about the garden as neighbours cats often come into it, but the vet said it's not a problem.

Most are still doing puppy vaccs it’s just boosters that are being left.

Not if we are in lockdown. Neither can you do public transport, school noises etc. I would delay if you can.

Lockdown is inevitable. Probably within the next 24-48 hours.

If a pup is left unvaccinated is it putting the puppy at harm? Could they get any illnesses/diseases from not being vaccinated or will they be ok as long as they get them eventually?

Hi Op,

I'm in the same boat. New pup due to come home on11th April but If we go into lockdown and I cant travel to pick him up I've arranged with my breeder to keep hold of the wee man until things ease up a bit.
This may not get my pup vaccinated until get him home but will hopefully give him a little time to socialise with the other pups and dogs in their household as socialising a pup with social distancing in force will be tricky.
I've spent the last 2 months grieving and lonely since the loss my old lab and then my young pointador in the space of 3 weeks so lockdown would be disappointing but I'm expecting it.

In amongst all the other Q&As on BBC this morning, they said that vets can stay open for urgent care and the supply of animal medicines

Routine checks and elective procedures should be postponed.

Immunisations (whether puppy or booster) not mentioned

Hi does anyone know how this will affect my pups vacs? She had 1 lot last week, to get KC next week and then last lot of jags 2 weeks after that? If vets stop doing vacs would she need to have the full course again from the beginning?
