As in not being able to take dog to the groomers. He's a poodle cross with hair that will grow into his eyes if it's not trimmed. I'm more than happy to just trim him myself but are there any special scissors I could use? All the online videos recommend clippers but I'm not certain how safe they are for a novice to use? Any suggestions?

You can get blunt edged scissors for that kind of thing as I saw some the other week

Of course - that makes sense. I've had a look and there are some on Amazon. Thank you.

Good luck with them. I have a poodle and I'm constantly seeing bits that need trimming. I like his quite short all over. Tempted to find myself some clippers online but I really don't think he would stay still long enough for me. Might try Dh's hair clippers if I get desperate.

It's his nails I worry about getting too long as well. Maybe need to do them myself.

Gah - I hadn't thought of his nails - but they will need clipping eventually. I've always ducked that one and got the groomer to do it. Something else to order for our new DIY world.

I’ve been thinking about this too. My girl goes every 4 weeks so will have to see where we are then. I took her on Monday & they said they were run off their feet the whole week with dogs ending grooming.

I invested in some clippers and nail clippers this year so I could groom my cavvie myself (was just getting too expensive). It's much harder than it looks to get a good clip all over but I am getting there with practice!

Sad fact!
There’s a great FB group Nail Maintenance for Dogs if you’re worried. Helped me learn to trim giant black nails!

Any recommendations for scissors please? I’m also looking at grooming my cavapoo. Need to do his face and paws mostly. Seen videos on YouTube and although not going to be easy looks doable. But need scissors... any recommendations please?
