Puppy in pain?

Hi all
My 6 month old lab / golden retriever mix had a procedure today under a sedative to open up a swollen bulge on her side next to her ribcage. The vet removed some inflamed tissue and drained the fluid, they think it was caused by a small foreign body (thorn / splinter / grass seed) that had gotten embedded somehow. They couldn't actually find anything, so think that her body had already broken down the offending object.
She has three sutures and has come home with antibiotics and anti inflammatory medicine.
She was pretty out of it when we got home this evening, slept a bit, woke up and ate a small amount.
I'm sleeping downstairs with her tonight, she's not herself at all which is to be expected, but I'm worried that she's in pain as she's quietly crying on and off. She's licked her paw a lot where the line for the sedative went in but has left the main wound alone.
Is it likely she's in a lot of pain? Could it be that she's shaken and upset by the experience?
Is there anything I can do other than be there for her?

Aww, yes she may be a bit uncomfortable but they would have given her IV pain relief - and presumably she's come away with some in liquid or tablet form, plus antibiotics?

It's more likely the after effects of the sedative - many dogs are a bit disorientated for 24 hours (I'm no vet but my old dog always took a couple of days to get back to her old self after any kind of anaesthetic).

Just be with her and soothe her, she'll be okay. If she was in really severe pain she'd be panting quite fast and wouldn't want to interact with you, or would want to hide. Hope she is back to her old self soon, it's horrible when you can't ask them what's wrong.

I think it can sometimes be an after effect of the anesthesia as my girl becomes super whiney after GA's. I usually get a call to come pick her up ASAP from the vets, then she whines a bit quieter for rest of the night unless fallen asleep and by morning she's fine. My other dogs have had similar dental/xrays as she has but just been dopey for few hours.

She's got anti inflammatory medicine which I assume is similar to ibuprofen as the instrument say not to give with any other NSAIDs. She's already had today's dose with her food.
She's not panting at all, just crying, and is stuck to me like glue so hoping that means she's not in a lot of pain.

Yes sounds like she's just getting over the sedation. She'll be fine!

I am currently awake because a certain 10 week old puppy was desperate for a pee at 1am, then kept me awake fannying around like a lunatic and trashing his crate for half an hour. Now the pup is snoring, I'm awake, and DH is reeling off why his cold symptoms could be Covid-19. He's not wrong, so that's us for 14 days...

Whimpering, whining, restlessness, changed to sleeping patterns - all normal post anaesthetic stuff. She should be back to normal within 24 hours

My dog is shocking after an anaesthetic and it lasts a couple of days. Keep her warm, quiet and comfortable and she will be fine.

As above but you need to do something like taping a sock or comfortable bandage over the spot on her leg that she's licking. Otherwise she can easily create an intensely irritated and sore lick granuloma which will need plenty of longterm treatment in its own right.

Ddog had been under GA a few times and the pitiful whinning, even when when nothing had been done to him, is heart wrenching.

You can take that green wrap off, could've done it after an hour or so. How is she today?

Thanks all - you were spot on - 24 hours of crying and not leaving my side, then as if by magic she was back to her old self again
Photos were taken when we'd just got back from vets and green wrap came off shortly afterwards.
We had her post-op check this morning and all good, continuing on antibiotics and back for stitches out next week.
