The doghouse

How long can a dog hold its bladder...or worse?

I don't usually leave my dogs alone for longer than 3 hours at a time however I've had a breakdown 3 hours drive from home and am stuck in the middle of nowhere waiting for the recovery truck. I let them out at 8.30am, and he's not going to get back until 4.30pmish. So that is 8 hours they'll have been stuck inside. Google isn't helping me! I feel awful, I really hope they'll be okay. Lots of cuddles when I get in.

It should be fine, that’s just like a Friday night with a Saturday morning lie in.

Hope you get home soon and you’re not waiting for breakdown for too long.

I was trying to compare it to bedtime at 9pm, lie in till 8am at a weekend, Fingers crossed, or at least - legs crossed.

Thanks, so do I. It's cold on the Yorkshire Dales brrrrrr

I've got so little signal that it took 3 minutes to load this page. But hey, what better to do when stuck at the side of the road - read Mumsnet

Mine went for a wee at about 3 pm yesterday...
and didn't go again til 10am this morning!!!!!! She was travelling to Scotland with my dd1 and they arrived late, but she was offered several chances to go and didn't.
Bladder of steel... (and hates the rain!)

Hope you got your car sorted out OP and dogs were okay.

My dog can go from around 11.30/12 midnight until 10.30/11 the next morning as she doesn't like to be disturbed too early, and even then she's not rushing to wee.

She's nearly 9 years old and weighs 6.5 kilos. Don't know if size makes a difference but her bladder must be tiny.

Although, most dogs seem to wee a lot on walks, I think they're actually capable of holding on for quite some time, when necessary.

Well my partner got home at 4.30 and they scrabbled for the door and apparently were outside for ten minutes. I’ve just got home what a nightmare.
