In your opinion and why?

STILL haven’t decided 100% on breed for new puppy.
Though really keen on a Papillon.

Looking for:

  • preferably non barky
  • preferably prick earred
  • sturdy enough to live with young children
  • active
  • not requiring crazy amounts of grooming

I had a papillon years ago as a child and he was a fantastic dog temperament wise; I'd definitely have another again. They do need regular brushing though.

Nowadays I have a JRT cross and he certainly keeps me on my toes Grin Not sure he'd fit the bill for you though!

Norfolk terrier. Can be a bit barky, but fit your other requirements well, except they have flop ears.

The prick ear Norwich terrier is a vulnerable breed and quite hard to come by

Papillons are sweet little dogs. Yorkshire Terrier, Australian Silky Terrier, Pomeranian and German Spitz Klein are small, active, prick eared breeds which don't need masses of grooming. I don't think you'd go wrong with a Papillon though.

... they do need grooming but have a look at Chinese Crested Powderpuff. I got one & one for DD when she was 6 & I found them very placid and easy to train. (I only moved on because they are a bit too small for me!)

I have a miniature dachshund, she is a lovely temprement and loves children and other dogs, doesn't shed hair, mine isn't barky but she's broken as most dachshunds really are!
