Dog walking trousers

I'm getting fed up with my black jeans (with wellies) getting splattered up the backs during this 3rd WEEK of shitty wet weather. I've thought about buying several cheapo pairs of thick leggings that can be bung in the wash and dried quickly?
What do you wear trouser wise?

Have you considered a pair of waterproof over trousers? Not going to win any fashion awards but they do the job

You need GAITERS. I finally bought some a couple of months ago and they are brilliant - I no longer have to wash my jeans every 5 mins. I bought mine from Amazon (I think) but they are on Ebay too. The ones I've got are called Bluefield. They are a bit of bother to put on and take off but you get better at it (if there is a hook on them, that is meant to go at the front to hook onto your boot laces if you have any). I leave mine with the Velcro'd seam done up so I just pull them on and off my leg and only undo/do up the shoe fixings each time. They cost about £12-ish and I wish I'd done it years ago.

Craghoppers are great. I have a pair of lined waterproof ones (not overtrousers) and a pair of water resistant winter lined ones. Love them.

Gaitors! ahhh good thinking, I will have a gander online! I think I've got a 20 yr old pair waterproofs somewhere - they remind me of awful school trips .

I wear either uniqlo thermal leggings (quick to dry) or Acai walking leggings which are shower proof

I've got some Acai walking trousers, quite expensive but love them.

Alternatively I've got waterproof over trousers with a zip at the bottom so I can get them on over boots

I'm a pro dog walker. I live in thermal long johns and capri length technical fabric walking trousers at this time of year - for boots I use leather wellies, like Dubarry's but not so eyewateringly expensive. I can take them off very quickly if I need to enter a customer's house and walk on the inevitable cream coloured carpets! I also hate the feeling of flapping around my ankles that you get with full length trousers. The technical fabric repels most of the water and dries in minutes if it does get wet. My summer version is good walking sandals and lose the long johns and socks, as long as there aren't going to be nettles or brambles on my route.

I'm a dog-walker.

I live in Rohan "troggings". Fleece lined, water-repellent and windproof. They dry within a couple of hours as well. Leggings don't keep me warm enough, nor do they keep the wind out, even if they are thermal ones. They're just not thick enough.

If it's REALLY wet I have overtrousers, but mostly the troggings do just fine an they're not too expensive either. £59 full-price but they're often on sale or have an offer on them.

I second getting a pair of waterproof over trousers.

I bought a pair from Go Outdoors (other trouser suppliers are available) online for £30.

They have velcro and zips at the bottom, pockets on the sides, elasticated waist, so easy to pull on, and keep me completely dry and clean and help keep me warm as they're wind proof as well.

Pop them in the washing machine when they get too muddy and they come out looking like new.

As pp suggested, they won't win any fashion awards but I'm over the moon with mine, wish I'd bought some years ago.

adaline, what's the sizing like on the Rohan troggings?

@MoreOfADogPerson they're pretty generous. I typically wear a 12-14 and mine are a 12 with a little space round the waist. The 10 would have been too tight though. They have different leg lengths too!

Rohan are really good with returns though so if they don't fit you can swap them pretty easily :)

No worries! They also have an elasticated waist which means they don't dig in when you're bending over to pick up poo

Oooo @adaline that’s very tempting.
I’m fed up of freezing and being wet/rustling under overtrousers this year.
Pup is 20 weeks old and I have holes in ALL my clothes. I have special tatty joggers and hoody to put over anything like leggings she can eat through.

@wolfiefan they have big sales twice a year, but in April they'll go into their mid-season sales and things are normally 35-40% off. If you sign up to their e-mails you'll find out the exact dates :)

But there's loads of old Rohan stuff on eBay and it goes for pretty cheap prices too - maybe around £10-15 which isn't bad.

For dog walking I wear Kiwi Craghoppers all year round in black.
In winter I put Mountain Warehouse black merino leggings underneath.

They're warm even when wet and windproof.

Both wash best 30oC no fabric softener and don't tumble dry.

Agree re Craghoppers. I wear the Pro II. Comfy and wash and dry really quickly. I’ll look at the Rohan troggings though.

@Wallywobbles I fit that description I nipped my Craghoppers Kiwi in at the waistband 2 cm on both sides on the sewing machine.
