Pup eaten first bone, woken up with very gunky eyes. Can he have them?

We gave our pup his first bone yesterday, he’s 7 months. He absolutely loved it, spent an hour eating it. He’s fine this morning but his eyes were very gunky. Google says this can be caused by inflammation in the gut.

Should we avoid giving him anymore or is this his system getting used to something raw for the first time?

I used to give my various (during lifetime) dogs marrow bones (beef) but the dog I had before the present one was a very thorough dog bone chewer and she would actually eat the entire thing. After a few years, she started to get obvious tummy discomfort and passed little bits of bone. I had to stop giving them to her as they were causing her to feel ill and I would never give them to a dog again. My current dog gets pigs ears (seemingly unbleached, etc), antlers, etc, which are quite safe.

Be careful of pigs ears and the like - my lab used to choke as he would try to swallow bits - never again!!!

Thanks @dora26, I'll watch out for that - so far, so good (and she has had quite a lot) but I don't like buying the ones with bits of hair still on!!

I’m just back from work and his eyes look so sore (he’s been with my parents all day). I’ve got him in at the vets for 6.30 so I’ll see what they say. His pops have been fine and he’s got a good appetite but somethings not right.

Mine sometimes gets randomly gunky eyes, and she is partly raw fed and I'm never sure if it's the food she's eaten or not . What sort of bone was it? Mine has raw chicken wings (you can get bags of just wing tips which made me less nervous about giving mine bone) and she loves them but I haven't tried bigger bones yet.
I do think that any new food can cause a little upset, be it eyes or poos!

It was a lamb bone (I don’t know what part of the lamb!) it was from a raw feeding specialist shop, the owner was very well informed. Asked me lots of questions and gave me advice so I think it was ‘safe’ for him to have.
