Lhasa apsos

I grew up with a Lhasa Apso, we got him when I was 5 and grew up with him until he passed away when I was nearly 20. He was the cutest, most loving, perfect family dog, would never of hurt a fly. He absolutely loved my dad, followed him everywhere, just best friends. He also loved my grandad as he took him on long walks and looked after him when my parents were at work. I often think about him and still miss him 6 years later. I've always been a bit sceptical about getting a dog myself although I love them, just because I worry about them being left while I'm at work and wouldn't ever want it to be unfair. But I would like to get a family dog when I can cut down my hours and have more time for them. Just wondering if anyone else has a Lhasa Apso and if they are all as loving as mine was and what your experiences are.

My Dad had one. Precious was a rescue so perhaps had had some bad experience before Dad had her, but she was devoted to him..but only him. She didn't like other men and was ambivelent towards most people.

She also had a jealous streak and would pee on my bed whenever I stayed there! She adored my Dad and would spend her days as close to him as possible.

My Mil had one. Grumpy little sod who bit everyone. Mind you I would be grumpy living with her...

We have a Lhasa Apso JRT cross. super little doggie! 4 kids in the family & very loving & gentle to all of us. Devoted to me-follows me everywhere. Very friendly to all dogs we meet on walks..cuddly & loves nothing more than snuggling up beside ANYONE on the sofa (even my mum, who is not a dog-lover). Not barky-you wouldn't know she was in the house. She's almost 2, and I'm so so glad we got her.She's also super cute-she looks like a short haired LA, but smaller. Little LA face, v sweet & cute. We are stopped all the time on walks by people admiring her. HTH!!

i've got two, a male and a female. Female definitely the alpha, she's older, bigger, gobbier,, greedier and has a sly streak, for example will do her business on the kitchen floor to protest at something she sees as unfair, like being made to get off the furniture if I want a minutes peace from her constantly needing to be on me or next to me. The male is little and so laid back he's like an ornament, and we often forget he's there, although he has the 'zoomies' for 10-20 minutes a day where he tears around the house jumping on everything and anything (sure he's crossed with a cat). He's generally a lot gentler than she is, and doesn't possess the brain power to dream up the 'dirty protest' ideas the female does! Both are lovely dogs, but I'd say pick the quieter one from the litter for an easier life, not the one who jumps about on their siblings and generally winds them up like we did with the female Hope this helps.

Oh, and the female used to lunge and bark at other dogs whilst out for walks, she doesn't do it now, I don't know if it's because she's outgrown it, or the years of training I put in to prevent her doing it. Both my dogs have been treated the same, both bought when they were 9/10 weeks old so definitely not behaviour issues from previous owners, just the temperament of the dogs themselves. I honestly believe you have to make your own judgements based on the dogs/pups you view in future, and remember they are individuals, and just because they are a certain breed doesn't mean they will always act/react a specific way.
