We're adopting a 10 month old lab, I've owned labs before, experienced dog owner
Lab has been trained but any hints and tips for settling in, do's and don'ts please. The labs I've had before were around 18mths -2yrs when they came to me

If you’ve adopted adolescent labs before I’m sure you know what you’re found.

A nice bed, healthy food, good walks, lots of fuss with a few boundaries- and all should be well.

Don’t know what the dogs history is; when I adopted a 1 year old , I got her and adaptil collar and the vet gave me some herbal calming pills ( nutra-something). Vet checked her over including her joints, hips etc.
Like any dog, I let her come to me rather than overwhelm her with cuddles (like now😁).
I took her to some safe areas to train her and we did a lot of lead walking to improve that and introduce her to the neighbourhood.
Otherwise, food, walks, some rules and lots of love .

She's arrived, lovely dog, knows her commands, but is very reactive to other dogs (will start barking and twisting on the lead) doesn't try to lunge, what's the best way to distract when walking past other dogs?

For a lab, food.
Food food food.

Some nice high value treats for her to sit and focus on you whilst they pass, or practice her heelwork off in the opposite direction to the other dogs, with some lovely smelly sausage as reward.

She's brilliant, still thinks she's little when trying to sit on DH lap in the evening and an open door is an excuse to retrieve just about every piece of rubbish she can find (stones, wood, you name it)

Last weeks Dogs Behaving Very Badly had a good case study on not getting over excited about other dogs - this weeks had a similar case with a great dane puppy - you might find it interesting to watch them?

Yes, saw both of them, she's improved a lot over the last 3 weeks, like the Great Dane puppy she missed out of socialisation, so we're working on that and we think she had a period of time when she didn't really meet other dogs. She's responded really well to being told to sit and receiving a treat
