Dog has pink itchy ears and tummy

My mini poodle (about 14 months) recently had a superficial skin infection and had ten days of antibiotics for it. It presented as boil/spots and irritated him a bit but not massively.

They were cleared up by the time his antibiotics ran out. He was overdue his worming tablet as I wanted to wait until he was off his antibiotics as he'd also had a stomach bug at the same time (was initially tested for Alabama rot!). Vet was confident it was two separate illnesses.

Anyway he had his worming tablet yesterday. Last night I noticed he had a very pink patch on his tummy and he was licking it more than usual. Also his ears are pinker than usual and itchy. His paws too. He's shaking his fur more than usual.
It's not like he's constantly bothered. And when we see him itching etc too much he's easily distracted.

The vet has said since he was a puppy that he was going to be sensitive to things. So I'm thinking either he does have an allergy, or could the worming tablet have effected his skin?

He's otherwise fine and full of beans. And by no means is he bothered by this much.

If it's not settled down by Monday I'll get him to the vets, just wondered if anyone had any experience of itchyness after the worming tablet or antibiotics.

Annoyingly I can't remember the name of either of the drugs!

My labs allergic to lots of things and is on a daily tablet. It stopped the red ears, tummy and feet licking. There are still some little bald patches.

Ddogs can take half an anti histamine tablet my vet told me.
Know a couple of owners who give them.

Thank you. That's interesting. Dh has admitted to sneaking ddog a few bits of human biscuits the day before so I'm thinking there was something in them that made his skin react.

He's a bit better with it today. Though is enjoying rubbing his ears and nose on me every time I sit on the floor.

I've bought a load of grain free treats to replace the ones he has and his food is already grain free.

Be useful to know what it is he's sensitive to but good to know he can take antihistamines if he has a bad time of it.

Yeah sounds like an allergy

My old dog had the same problem. He as allergic to no end of products and would get red, itchy and explosive runs.

It would get to the point where he would self mutiliate. So we always had piriton on hand, and would rub some sudocreme on the really bad areas.

Sounds messy! Did you ever manage to work out what he was allergic to?

My vet said early on he would have allergies. He said he had pink looking pads, and he was being treated at the time for an ear infection brought on by wearing a cone for another unrelated reason.

Not sure whether I should take him to the vets or not. He's on Orijin food which is good quality and grain free. He sometimes has a bit of grain free wet food in the evening too. Would a vets 'hypoallergenic' dog food be any better? I like the Origin meat is as 'cruelty free' as I could manage too.

He was on fish4dogs which was potato and fish.

He died in 2013 and the two dogs I have now are much less complicated

Sorry to hear that. Glad you have more straight forward dogs now!

Ddogs anal glands need emptying quite often too. Wondering if that's all linked in. He's at the vets this afternoon for them so I will mention it to the nurse.
