Dog Food for sensitive stomach

My 10 month puppy has a very sensitive stomach and gets diarrhea very easily. Royal Canin food (provided by the vet) did cure it, but it's expensive and having read some threads on here, I think it's not very good? The vet also recommends purina puppy food, but she doesn't really like that.

Can anyone recommend any food for her?

(I hesitate to say this, but she's a cockapoo puppy).

My dog has a sensitive tummy and I tried several different foods. For the past few years he's been on Nature Diet. He seems to really like it and it's gentle on his stomach.

My dog has a chronic stomach condition. He is much better on wet food compared to kibble.

We have used millies wolfheart, forthglade, carnilove, natures menu.

mine is far better on raw food. Too much kibble causes stomach problems for him. We use nutriment.

My dog has always had a sensitive stomach and we have always fed her on Burns dry food. She started with the puppy food and then went on to the adult one.

We have tried all sorts and took us almost a year to find one that works!

FrangipaniPup is on Wainwright's Grain Free dry kibble and we have no issues at all.

He also doesn't get anything that has grains/wheat (gives him hives) and dairy is a big fat no no as it gives him the runs too.

My labrador, after many upset tummies and trials of different specialist foods, has been on Burns Sensitive Pork and Potato for ages now. It's really good and suits her fine.

My 5 year old lab has a stomach condition that requires daily meds to stop her from vomiting.
She is on Burns Sensitive.
It works for her.

Ours is now on Guru which seems great. She also had soft poo problems, and also skin allergies but this stuff seems to have fixed it all. It's about £55 for a 15k bag and lasts for ages.

We had the same issues with our lab as a puppy, always had runny poos and on a daily walk would regularly do 5-6 poos just on one walk!

We tried loads, even tried raw for a while but our doggo just wouldn't eat raw food after a while.

Apparently chicken meat is a common allergen, more common than people think. We've now been feeding ours Skinners Field and Trial dry kibble in the salmon flavour as fish as a protein source is good for sensitive stomachs compared to poultry or red meat meal.

It works really well for us and our vet feeds her dog the same so she approves too.

Oh and it's also only around £30 for a huge 15kg bag so it's really cost effective in comparison to the price of some premium branded food

My dog has, in the past, had flare ups of pancreatitis.

The vet suggested Royal Canin sensitive stomach food, which has worked wonders. I buy it online from Pets at Home and it's nearly a £1 cheaper a tin than when I was buying it from the vet. My dog can't take kibble so has to be fed a wet food.

Don't confuse the reviews for the vet Royal Canin foods with the regular Royal Canin food that you can buy at the pet shops. The vet foods are of a much better quality, without all the horrible fillers that the regular RC food has; I would never feed my dog on regular RC food.

The vet nurse suggested that I might try feeding my dog Chappie, which is very cheap and easily available at the pet shop or supermarket.

It's very similar to the make up of the RC sensitive food just with a slightly lower protein content; a lot of vets recommend it for dogs with sensitive stomachs. It might be worthwhile having a look at that for your dog.

I haven't changed to Chappie as I'm happy with the food she's on and it suits her really well. But she's a small dog and one tin last for around two and half meals. I imagine feeding a larger dog on it would work out a bit pricey though.

We have two boxers both with sensitive stomachs and the food that agrees with them the most is Harrington's Lamb or Turkey. We get a 15kg bag from ASDA for £25

Millies wolfheart salmon mix 60/40 (we have tried a mix with a higher level of protein but found it was too rich for ours). It's grain, chicken and potato free -all things which can aggravate sensitive tummies.

I cook my dogs food, normally lean mince veggies and potato. Sometimes we give her raw steak cut up very small. She has a skin condition and prone to ear infections and a delicate stomach and the vet recommended we cook from fresh. It’s a pain but if you fry up the mince and boil potatoes every few days it isn’t so bad!

My lurcher has a very sensitive stomach and the only kibble that agrees with him is Skinner's Field & Trial - specifically the duck and rice.

Oh thank you all. I've ordered some of the Burns stuff for now, but it's good to know that I can get Royal Canin sensitive from Pets at Home too. I know that agrees with her. I'll work through the rest of the recommendations if I need to.

Glad you've got something that works for you. Mine has been fine on Harrington's, forthglade, and is most recently on tails.com (who custom blend to your needs - there's sensitive tummy options).

Someone else recommended Tails too. Will try if the Burns food doesn't work out.
